  • Person [Z] Best Man!!!!!!

My brother has asked me to be his best man for his wedding next year.

I have agreed to it as it is my brother but don't have a clue what I am ment to do for the build up to the wedding and during the wedding.

    • I know I have to make a speech but I don't know what about.
    • I know I have to organise the stag party. (That is good)

Apart from the two things above I haven't got any other ideas.

I need alot of help to make it a wonderful day for everyone.

    Hello!

    Wave Welcome to hitched.

Don't be dismayed that no one has posted back to you, this manly forum is quite new and not as well known as wedding planning (WP), i would copy and post your concerns etc. on the wedding planning forum, we do have a few chaps around.

We're all very nice and won't bite!

    As for your post...

The BestM speech is about your life together, silly things you've done, memorable things..when he was there for you. It doesn't have to be full of jokes it's just a summary of your brother for the guests and to congratulate him and his new wife.

The stag do can be pretty much anything - activity days which inc. paintballing, quad biking etc. plus a night out. There are loads (and I mean loads) of companies that can get you good prices for these things whereever you want them ...either UK or abroad (but this will probably restrict numbers due to money at the mo).

    Good luck

It might be worth you purchasing a book such as this if you're unsure?

Apologies, it's a Confetti book - don't banish me to there!!!!

Those are two main responsibilities.  There will be a rehearsal dinner which you will also have to attend.

For the speech, why don't you check out a sample Best Man speech:  http://weddingspeechestoasts.com/funny-best-man-speech-example

The speech is only 3-5 minutes so it's easier than you think. Most of the speech will be thank you's and acknowledging people that should be acknowledged.  If you put in one anecdote about the groom that is often sufficient.

There might not be a rehersal dinner as that's more of an American tradition. We didn't even have a rehersal the night before (couldn't get everyone together and the venue was unavailable the night before)

You may have seen the tabs along the top of the page "Venue, Planning, Stag and Hen and Speeches". If you have a look round there it might help. Also your local library might have books that you could look at before shelling out cash..

    Good luck, and enjoy yourself!

Yes, for the stag party of my brother's, we had planned to get Tuxedo T shirts which were similar in design and color. We had ordered for about 15 of us and how we looked on that day, all alike, and very difficult to distinguish! We ordered the stuff from the websitehttp://www.greenturtle.com/Funny/Humor/Tuxedo-T-Shirt-1207/ and the fun we had on that day was something one can never forget in life.

Yes, for the stag party of my brother, we had decided to wear Tuxedo T shirts and ordered the same from the site http://www.greenturtle.com/Funny/Humor/Tuxedo-T-Shirt-1207/. We all looked alike and the surprise and curious looks just took our spirits too high. We had fun and took pride in replying all who were asking us about the shirts.

Hi, I was talking ot a male friend last week who got married last November about Best Men and he said that his Best Man was so good because he was there to calm his nerves, know where he was supposed to be at what time and generally organise him around the time of the wedding. Along with the general stuff of speeches and stag do.

hi christopher im jen. you should offer to help where you can with everything. your speech should come after the grooms speech. u should introduce the groom to the brides side of family, if u plan on including funny/rude stories just bear in mind the grannys and gramps that will  may not wish to hear such things about grandghildren. u should also read out any messages from family that can not b there u should also comment on how the bridesmaids look.

u are responsable for the groom thats on the stag nite. DONT do it night before wedding or the bride WILL kill u.

make sure the ushers know there duties on the day,  make sure the groom arrives in plenty of time and is dressed corectly.  look after any payments that needto b made on day such as ceromny fee etc,  look after the rings,  announce the cake cutting if there is no toast master. go easy on the alcohol until after this as it is supprising how it will affect u if u r nervous. head up look to back wall of room and speak loud u b fine and goooooood luck. xxxxxxxxxxxxStick out tongue

In my opinion, Best Man is the top job at a wedding, that is if you are a complete control freak like me?

You will be the invisible glue holding everything together and everybody from the Vicar to the Venue manager, the photographer to the DJ or Band Leader will come to you to find out if everything is ready.

Then you get the good bit and the most important bit of embarrassing the groom, that is the key point of your speech and if you nail it then it is all people will talk about all evening.

when planning your stag do, although you're supposed to organise it, make sure your groom has input, I've been on too many crap stag do's where afterwards the groom has confessed they didnt really want to do what we did!

Hi Christopher, try not to stress.  Here is a basic list of Best Man duties that give to my Brides and Grooms which may help.  Obviously you can decide between you which you will be required to cover as this is just a guide.  Hope it helps and good luck.

    Best Man Responsibilities are

    - He plans for bachelor party with groomsmen and friends.
    - He pays for his own attire.
    - Attends ceremony rehearsal and rehearsal dinner.
    - Helps the groom dress and gets him to the church on time.

    The Wedding Ceremony

    - He pays the clergyman on behalf of the groom and bride.
    - Signs and witnesses the Marriage Certificate.
    - He holds the Bride's ring until the ceremony.
    - Supervises the groomsmen.

    At the reception

    - He acts as the host, welcoming the guests at the reception.
    - He is seated at the table of hour with the bride and groom.
    - Is photographed as part of the wedding party.
    - He offers the first toast to the bride and groom.
    - He dances with the Bride after the groom and both fathers.
    - Dances with the matron of honour
    - He is responsible for packing the suitcases into the honeymoon car.
    - Any tickets, keys etc are in his safekeeping.
    - Helps the bride and groom depart when the night is done.
    - Collects and returns all formal wear rentals on time.
    - Arranges transportation and drives the couple to the hotel or the airport.
    - May receive a gift from the groom.

This is really good advice. They arn't having a reception do because of the time that they will be getting married so really it will be the ceremony and then the night do.

I keep asking him if he needs me to do anything but he just says no.
