  • Annoying berk in the park, is it legal?

My house backs on to a park/recreation area and every so often some little berk decides to ride his dirt bike motorbike thingy around and across the park for a bout half an hour at a time. It's so loud and incredibly annoying not to mention dangerous as the park is used by a lot of dog walkers and children. Is this illegal? I thought about calling the police on him last time he did it but it's hardly a 999 issue so I'm a bit stumped. Any advice would be welcomed, TIA.

Call your local police station. We had a similar problem last year, They can seize and impound bikes especially if it isn't taxed. Hope they stop soon.

Depends who owns the land, if it#%92s not his which I suspect its not and the local authority who own the land don#%92t allow it then he is breaking the law.

However as you have pointed out not a 999 call, your local council office may have enforcement officers for such activates, they would server him a warning, if he then breaches that then in most areas his bike will be taken off him and crushed.

call 101 which is the non emergency number, they will send the police I'm sure

Or look in your local yellow pages/thomson/bt directory. The number for the local police hq should be in one if not all of them (normally separate at the front in the information section)

Ooh, I like the thought of them crushing it [laugh]

Thanks for all the advice, will look up the number for the local council (I hadn't thought of that) and the local police too and see what they say.

    Thanks again [thanks]

    W other has S

We had some teenager riding up and down our street last summer on the pavements. It was on one of those little motorbikes. Not only was it dangerous it was damn annoying when you were trying to relax in the back garden. After day 2 I rang the local police station and I never saw him on it again, so I guessed they came and paid him a visit.
  • Re: Annoying berk in the park, is it legal?

My ex got arrested on a public road on one of those little bikes! He had bought it for his kids for christmas, but then got high and decided to take it for a spin (right past the police station!!!) He was arrested and charged and the bike was impounded.

Because he couldn't prove he had tax, insurance and MOT (because it wasn't a road bike) even if he had the money he wouldn't have been able to get it back and the thing was crushed!

I feel sorry for his kids, but he was a complete knob!

  • Re: Annoying berk in the park, is it legal?

It is illegal if its not taxed and insured and he is not driving on private property AFAIK. A kid I worked with had his crushed and he was banned from driving (at 14!) because he was driving his on the road.

Like others have said I would call 101 or the local police number (in our area 0845 0454545 but not sure if thats a national thing).

i don't thinks that number works for the entire country yet. but they will be a non emergency number on the forces website. or if its west yorkshire i can tell KT it [laugh]

i'd call them, a lot of forces have special motorbike bobby teams, and this is what they are targeted to do
  • Re: Annoying berk in the park, is it legal?

Kids used to ride their mini motors in the park by us but someone must have called the police as they have suddenly stopped.

I'd definitely call the non emergency number and see what they say.
  • Re: Annoying berk in the park, is it legal?

I'm on the Met/Kent borders but thanks anyway KtC.

Now I'm just waiting for the little git to do it again [laugh]

    Thanks all
  • Re: Annoying berk in the park, is it legal?

We have some little (well 22yr old) idiot who does this on our very quiet cul de sac. H rang police last time, and they paid him a visit, and told him that if he's seen doing it again, they will take it away and crush it!
  • Re: Annoying berk in the park, is it legal?

We've had someone driving one of these on our backstreet (not owned by anyone afaik) and we weren't sure what to do. My step dad wanted to speak to them but we wouldn't let him so next time we'll try the police.
