Hymns - I know it's been done before but...

What are you having? and any suggestions?

I want uplifting (short ) something that is not too modern and not too old.

How many hymns are you having?  I was thinking 2 would be enough.  Possibly 3 at a push.

My BIL has also offered to do a reading - so need to look into that too - any ideas?  I quite like footprints in the sand.

I didn't have a church wedding but from a guests point of view I'd choose something you think quite a lot of guests will know.

We went to a really grand wedding at Sandhurst recently and no one had heard of any of the hyms. I'm glad they had a choir as otherwise there wouldn't have be much noise as most of the side we were on didn't even know the tune even to blag it.

Roll on a few weeks to another friends wedding, they had Lord of the Dance and All Things Bright and Beautiful and everyone was singing (ok, there was probably some miming too!).

we`re having `all that I am`, make me a channel of your peace` and `lord of the dance`. but its a catholic ceremony so they seem to expect 3-they like to drag it out. we`re also having my sister and his sister doing readings, with my other sister and 3 little neices doing bidding prayers.

We're having 2 hymns, one being Bread of Heaven, not sure on the other one yet. Want something uplifting like yourself. Will be interested to see what people come back with.

One of our readings will be corinthians but not sure on the other one.

We are thinking of having Lord of the Dance & All Things Bright and Beautiful. We also like He's got the whole world in his hands & Sing Hosannah

We're thinking of "Give me joy in my heart," "Make me a channel of your peace" and "you shall go out with joy" although my mom thinks I'm mad for choosing them. We'd better get a move on and make the final decision though as we get married in 5 weeks time

We're having 'O come all ye faithful', 'O little town of bethlehem' and 'Hark the herald angels sing' so not  really a lot of help lol

If I was having a wedding at any other time of year I would have opted for something like 'Jerusalem' and 'Shine Jesus shine' something nice and uplifting but anything other than All things bright and beatiful!

I would have had this but we sang it at my Grandad's funeral so decided against it.

Make me a Channel of Your Peace is my favourite hymn.  Lord of the Dance always gets everyone singing as do I Vow to Thee My Country and Jerusalem.

i need to think about this too!!  have no idea but want something traditional, not this happy clappy new age stuff they seem to do in church....  might just ask my minister for ideas.... i like christmas carols but cant do them in july! LOL.

We're having 'Praise my soul, the King of Heaven' and 'We come, dear Lord, to celebrate'.  The second one is to the tune of Dear Lord and Father of mankind.  The words are more modern and perfect for just after the vows.  Here's the first verse -

We come dear Lord to celebrate

the love our friends have found,

and thank you God for their embrace

the joy and promise in this place

which makes it Holy ground,

which makes it Holy ground

If anyone wants the full words just let me know - the words are perfect and not overly holy if you know what I mean!

We are having, Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, Be Thou my Vision, and Shine Jesus Shine.

I wanted Make me a Channel, as it was my mum favourite but was worried, as I will be emotional anyway, this will make it worse, so the vicar suggested the Choir sing it while we are signing the registers which I thought was a nice idea.

We had Praise My Soul, Lord of all Hopefulness and I Vow to Thee my Country (which my Dad told me not to have cos Princess Diana had it at her wedding and funeral!!!!)

We were lucky that our congregation sang well, but I recommend a choir as we had one and they were great and I Vow to Thee goes extremely high in places!!
