    Howdy doody guys,

Ok, I admit it, I'm an ipod virgin. I've never had one (but got an MP3 instead.)

These Ipods with video's on them - what video's do you put on them please?

Sorry for the absolutely idiotic questions here - am just wondering whether it's worth getting one or just sticking with my MP3?

    Thanks xx

(.... and you can stop laughing now.... really you can.... ok, so I am that thick, carry on then!)

You can put what you want on it - mine currently has Thomas the Tank Engine and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on it (guess who has a 2 year old Laugh) but you can put music videos, tv programmes, films etc on it.

As for is it worth getting one - I've now got an iPod nano having previously had a Creative Zen Touch and I much much prefer the iPod.  Much cooler and you can get much better accessories etc to go with it.

You can put anything you like on them.  You can either download some stuff from iTunes or get a video converter (loads of them online for free) and convert your DVDs into iPod files.

Oooh now I didn't know you could do that!

Is it expensive downloading programmes to put onto it?  Can you download anything?

Sorry for my total ignorance here Embarrassed

The two conversion programs I use regularly are HandBrake and MPEGStreamclip.

HandBrake is easier to use, and the only program that can grab subtitles from a DVD as well as picture and sound, while MPEGStreamclip is more versatile but there's a steeper learning curve.  But they're both superb, both have presets for easy iPod conversion, and they're an absolute bargain (obviously, as they're completely free!)

Last night I downloaded the first season of Bones to my iPod.  Think it was £27.99.  I hear it's a good series, I haven't bought it to purely perv oh no siree!

    Fantastic - thanks for that.

As my gym doesn't have a decent tv (they just have a generic music channel on) would you say it's easy enough to watch a programme on it at the gym?

It's probably worth noting that the iPod Touch (and of course the iPhone) has a significantly bigger screen than the iPod Classic or iPod Nano - I'd say it's as small as I'd be prepared to go for watching anything longer than a few minutes.

(In fact, just about the first thing I did when I bought my iPhone was to delete all the videos off my iPod Classic, as it was obvious that I was never going to watch a screen that small again if I could possibly help it!)

ROTFL You have got to be kidding me re: the perving ROTFL  Seriously £27.99?  Blimey.  Right, now the only question I have I guess whether to amazon it or argos it.  There's £15.00 in it.  If I amazon it then it's cheaper but going to be Tues before it gets here.... Hmmmm

For the gym, I think you would be better with an iPod touch as the screen is bigger, so easier to see when you are moving about, and you can turn it to landscape.  At my gym there is a little book/magazine shelf  on all the cardio machines so I just pop my iPod on there.

I like it because I can watch a 42 minute episode of Doctor Who while on the crosstrainer and by the end of it I've done a good workout.

Hmmm I don't think I can justify the extra dosh for the touch.  Is it really so much better than a nano?

  • Re: IPod Help

Definitely get the iTouch.  I want it but I only got my new iPod at Christmas so it seems a bit of a waste.

Oh no, am torn now.  The whole reason why I want one is to spur me on at the gym so I don't get bored.  But it's a lot of money isn't it.

Gahhhhhh. I suppose I could just put it onto the credit card!

Dramatically better.  If you can get a demo of the two side by side this should be obvious in seconds!
