  • Something borrowed - hitched need your help

    Hi guys,

I'm the features ed here at hitched and we're preparing a fab homepage feature for November on Something Borrowed...(this request is in "journalist seeking" too, but as this request is for hitched, I'm breaking rules all over the place!)

We're looking for as many bride-to-be quotes as poss on what is going to be your "something borrowed" on the wedding day - the more unique, unusual, meningful etc the better.

If you'd like to take part we'll use your forum username alongside your quote and the only other thing we need is your wedding date.

So you just need to tell me...

    Your wedding date:

What your something borrowed is and why:

    That's it!

You can pop it in the thread here and once the feature is live I'll pop a link in. I'll let you know when we get enough ideas (fingers crossed!)

Huge thanks for your help in advance,

    Jo @ hitched.co.uk x Wave

    Hi there

My something borrowed is my mum's necklace.  I have looked at hers and picked this one because I remember it from when I was a child, I was always attracted to it and would often put it on to "try".

    Hi karenanne229

    That's a lovely one!

    Thanks x

My wedding date was 28th Aug 2011.

Onto the ribbon-wrapped stem of my brooch bouquet, I sewed a pendant left to my mother by my late grandmother. It was a blue stone in a gold setting. It was simultaneously Something Old, Something Borrowed and Something Blue.

Don't be fooled by their innocent looks. All Emmas Are Evil. And they're coming for you.

Hitched Awards 2013 - officially a scary blunt.

    HI,

My wedding date is 14th September 2013.

My something borrowed is my OH's Grandmothers wedding ring which I'm having sewn into my wedding dress on a blue ribbon. He was very close to his Gran and lived with her whilst he was growing up due to his parents separating so we wanted her to be included in our big day.

Ta ladies - lovely ideas xx

My wedding is 27th October, my something borrowed is a brooch that was made from a necklace fastening that belonged to my Great Grandmother. I am attaching it to my bouquet as there is no more room for any glitz or glam on my dress or my body!

Do excuse any poor spelling- I can't type on my iPad! Surprise

    Wedding report is here!

My wedding is 17th August 2013.

I am borrowing my best friends veil.  She got married in March and I was her bridesmaid, she will be a bridesmaid at my wedding too.  It is special to me and will also save me a few pounds not having to buy one!

  • Re: Something borrowed - hitched need your help

Thanks to everyone who helped with this - the feature is now live on the hitched homepage:

I wanted to involve my mother in law in the planning, so I asked her for something I could borrow. She lent me her late mother's lace handkerchief, which was pinned round my bouquet. My something old was my own late grandmother's ring, so it was lovely to have something from both mine and my husband's grandmothers, even though they're no longer with us.

Well mine is a bot boring I'm afraid.  I borrowed an old Guernsey doubles coin from my step dad (I'm from Guernsey, hence the Guernsey coin) which my mum sewed into the inside of my dress.

I thought it would be nice to have something half traditional (coin rather than sixpence) but from my step dad as my dad gave me away.

Lovely article, gave me a warm glow.

And for the record my old, borrowed blue is the garter with a blue bow that my mum wore on her wedding day having been given it by her oldest and dearest friend who will also be at our wedding.
