  • Wedding tips for brides and grooms?

    Hi Hitchers

I'm planning on putting a 'helpful tips' page on my blog to help soon to be B&G's. I'm hoping some helpful hitchers can share their knowledge and experience so that I can help future B&G's avoid common mistakes that could otherwise be easily avoided.

They don't have to be photography related, but for example; I recently called a Vicar to find out what their rules were during the service for a wedding just passed. She said no photography was allowed during the actual service. Anyway to cut a long story short, I said I don't use flash etc. and that I would be very respectful and only take a few pictures at key points. She agreed to allow some pictures. If I hadn't called ahead of time, and politely negotiated with the Vicar, it would have been very unlikely I would have been allowed to get away with taking any pictures. In fact as I entered the church the Ushers all stressed I shouldn't take pictures. I said I know and looked at the Vicar and she gave me a half smile and a knowing nod.

Look forward to hearing your tips...

On a similar note, always check that a videographer is allowed in the Church.  We have to pay extra to have ours due to copyright and the rights of the organist's playing.

One of the reasons I mainly do weddings in my core area is that I build up relationships with florists, cars, vids, ministers etc etc. This can be very useful. 2 local churches totally ban any photography or videography.....with me being the exception due to that relationship build of trust.

Another thing is that "some" ministers and registrars use "its against the law to photograph the register"...Get to know this law and the fact that it isn't against the law...so don't be bulldozered by a mistruth....Know which acts of Palaiament apply (there are two) and this catches them by surprise and they invariably relent......

Good point, I asked about the register and she let me photograph that as well.

The law is that you may not photograph the details of the register(which may show others details(4 to an open page). As long as you don't shown the written words, it is within the law......As your shot shows, there is no chance of that...

A tip for future brides from this weekend. Make sure your shoes are comfortable, sore feet isn't fun.

If you've got a big dress or one with a train, it's often easier (when going to the toilet) to do so facing the opposite way to normal.

i.e your front should be facing the back of the toilet rather than the "normal" way.

This means you don't have to faff about lifting up the dress, holding up the back and having people in the cubicle helping you and so on.

    Much easier :)

That wasn't the wedding I was referring to, but actually that bride also had sore feet so just took her shoes off, hence why she looks so much shorter than the groom. However the wedding from this Saturday, that wasn't possible due to unsuitable surfaces (gravel etc.) and because it was raining nearly all day so her feet would have got pretty wet, dirty and cold.

(still turned out to be an awesome wedding though)
