  • Distance between ceremony and reception venue

Just weighing up my options at this stage- wanted to know what people thought.

How far between the two venues is an acceptable distance for guests to travel (for a winter wedding, if it makes any difference)?  I've not been to many weddings and I've no idea what people expect.  We can't have the reception at the ceremony venue, so I'm working out how far afield I should look.  Any ideas?

This is a big consideration for us and we're hoping for no more than a 30 minute journey, although will aim for less.

Although we are planning on putting a routemaster bus on for people.

Let's do it. Let's go get the sh*t kicked out of us by love.

When my brother got married, the reception was about a 20-30 minute drive from the ceremony venue and it wasn't a problem. It's hard to say, but if it's more than a 30-40 minute drive, then I think it might be too far.

Our church and reception venue is about 25 mins away from each other. The venue was the only one we both liked that was reasonable.  Dont worry too much about what people think, it's your day remember!

I would say about a 30 min would be ok.

Although I would consider a few things.  Are your guests local? if lots are travelling and dont know the area, travelling between venues and getting lost may be a headache.  COuld you bus people between venues?  Lots of elderly people may find it difficult having to travel, again a bus would fix this.  Also think about the roads between ceremony and reception e.g. M25 may be a problem, or city centre at a rush hour/busy time.  But a more rural area may be easier.

Were having all of ours in a city centre, with reception a 2 min walk from the church so all guests can be 'hearded' round the corner without losing any!!

I agree with the other ladies, 30 minutes and under is best, I think when you head towards an hour or more then it can be tricky

Ours is about 15min away, we've not provided transport though.

I would say anything is okay really up to half an hour. If it was more than say £8 in a taxi though or there was loads that didn't drive I would do a mini bus or coach for them.

its 11.1 miles between my church & reception venue.
I had this panic on, but ive been reasured, if ppl want to come to my wedding, the'l make it to the reception. Obviously i'll ask ppl to give others lifts if theyre driving, but im not going to let it worry me. xx

Thanks everyone, much appreciated.  There's plenty of potentials within a 20-30 min drive (according to Google maps, I don't drive myself!) so I'm feeling much better about it.
