  • Ladies - Talk to me about Antenatal classes....

Ok, So i'm 27 weeks today. Not sure if I've left it too late to join any classes etc. But did anyone bother with aquanatal classes? I've just phoned our local pool, they do aquanatal classes for an hour weds morning. If I'm entitled to time off for the classes, I want to make the most of it! A morning off from work sounds good lol!

Are there any others that I should look out for? I have a MW appointment Tuesday so I'll ask her for more details then but just wanted to see if I could find out any info from you lovely ladies Big Smile

    TIA xxx

I'd definitely recommend doing Nct. It's worth it just to meet other couples if anything. I still see mine every week.

I'd second LLL's comment. Without doing NCT our total ante-natal classes would have been 2 provided during the day meaning that H couldn't attend!

Don't know about aquanatal but I've been using a pregnancy yoga DVD my MIL bought me which has been great x

    antenatal yoga - AMAZING

I would really recommend it not only for the bonding experience and was also brilliant for the actual birth and it is def the reason I got through with gas and air!

I attended 2 morning NHS antenatal classes & they were ok, too be honest a lot of the stuff they went through I knew from here but it was still informative. I thought about joining the NCT but it was more money than I could justify & obviously the nhs ones are free. Anyone who wanted to keep in contact wrote their name on a piece of paper which we got a copy of & it was me that started the emails going then the meet ups & I see them fairly regularly. Obviously we all had babies at slightly different times so only 1 other lady was then in my post natal group which was 9 weeks of classes so I now have lots of mummy friends!

I didn't bother with NCT. I didn't want to pay £200 odd to make friends with people - I hate making friends and my H would hate it too.

I attened the 2 NHS offered classes and went to pregnancy yoga which was fab.

I was thinking of just doing the NHS ones, but I dont think there was a yoga one on the list. That's why I was going to do the aquanatal one. At least I'd feel like I'd done something then!

Yeah, KB3 and BK - I don't think we can justify the ££ of the NCT ones! Didn't realise how expensive they were!xx

Thanks for your input all xxx

We did the NHS antenatal ones. We had one session on labour/pain relief etc and one on after the birth, recovery, feeding etc. We then had a tour round the delivery suite. They were informative although i knew quite a bit from here. Worth doing for free though. I've met loads of other mums through baby groups after P was born so dont feel like i missed out not oing NCT.

Yoga was a private class, one evening a week. I had to pay for a term. Just google antenatal yoga and you should get some in your area.

We did the NHS ones which were ok. To be honest, I already knew most of the stuff from here but I just couldn't justify paying for the NCT ones plus we didn't have one local I don't think. I did pay for a weekly aqua yoga class though which was great for relaxation and staying active in pregnancy.

Thanks ladies, did abit of research last night.

For those that did the pre-natal yoga, how far along were you when you attended and how much exercise were you already doing?

    TIA xxx Thanks

I started at 15 and finished about 29 weeks because I was poorly and obviously didn't reach term. I did no exercise prior to this!!!! The classes were mostly lying down stroking your belly and a few simple stretches!
