*Newbie* Anyone know theyre going to get married, but have no idea when??!!

Hi, I'm Steph,

My OH and I have been together 10 months, we know we're soul mates and we know we want to get married, we'd get married tomorrow if we able too, but i'm a bit of a stickler for tradition and before he puts a ring on my finger i'd like him to ask my mums permission first etc...... plus money's tight so he has to first save up before buying the engagement ring! Its just so frustrating haha, I'm finally happy after 12 long years of awful reltionships and a divorce. My kids adore him and he them, I just want to set a date and start planning! I'm so impatient!!! Aaaarrrrggghhh! :-)

Welcome to hitched and congratulations on your impending engagement!  I agree, always think it's nice for the bloke to ask the parentals for their blessing (mine did it hiding in his car in a hotel car park as he'd forgotten to do it before we went away on the wekened he was planning to propose, but he still did it!)

So what do you want to have for your big day?  church? registry office? hotel? beach? something wildly different?

I was the same, I knew we wanted to get married but wanted to wait till we'd been together x amount of time (we personally felt getting engaged after 3 months would be too soon even though we knew we were going to..) Had to then wait for OH to afford the ring etc.

I didn't start planning anything till afterwards but I did imagine and think about stuff in my head.

There are a couple of others floating around awaiting official engagements though, they might pop along to this thread and say hello!!

Congratulations Steph and welcome to Hitched.  You will love it here.  I have been engaged since 2009 at the start we did not know when we were getting married due to money constraints.  Basically it all starts when you think of a date (I set mine very far ahead acording to some family) but that date is based on how long it will take you to save for a deposit on a venue or venues. 

I am so glad that you have found the one, and found your prince after all those frogs :)

Its good to know i'm not a complete nut job! We both want a traditional church ceremony, but would like the reception to be full of fun, family kids and music. Nothing to formal and organised. Its so exciting yet frustrating at the same time!

Cant wait to get to know other girls waiting for it to be 'official' as such! When it is, i may well explode with excitement! Got lots of plans and ideas floating around in my crazy brain.

I was the same OH and I knew we wanted to get married, but we wanted to wait until we had been together a year, so we did.

I wanted him to ask my dad, so he did.

He saved up for the engagement ring and took me shopping for it, it was well worth the wait! It was frustrating waiting, especially as we got closer to our one year anniversary.

I was reading this thread and people's stories and then suddenly remembered I was in a similar situation before I got engaged! We knew after at least a year (and probably a lot earlier, I can't remember exactly when) that we wanted to get married, however we wanted to live together first and I was still a student so we wanted to wait until we had our own place and incomes. I was living with my mum and OH moved in with us for about 6 months, I finished my course in August, started my job in October, found a flat but it wasn't available until 17th December and we got engaged on 10th December (after being together for almost 2 years at that point). So we were still living with my mum when we got engaged which wasn't exactly what I'd wanted but at least we had everything in place. We also didn't have a lot of money so my ring isn't very expensive, OH offered to buy me a new one on our 5th anniversary (or whenever we have more money) but I love my ring, its priceless to me because its the one he picked out and gave to me.

I used to get so fed up of waiting for what I felt was 'real life' to start (actually having money, not living with my mum) and I couldn't wait to get married, but at the same time I felt that considering we're going to be spending the rest of our lives together there was no rush and I wanted everything to be right.
