OMs - how many people people ate cake?

I am curious about how many people ate cake at your wedding? and was there enough to feed all the guests? and how did you do it? i.e. did you have a cheaper secret cake that nobody ekse knew about to give out so that everyone had some?

We are having two 3 tier cakes made - a chocolate one and a fruit one. The chocolate will be the one on display, that we actually cut, and we will have it cut and served on platters. The fruit cake will be served too, but some will be kept behind to be posted to guests that can't attend. :) xx

Hardly anyone!! We had 220 guests in all (150 day and an extra 70 evening) We had a four tier cake and an extra cutting cake. The cutting cake was cut and taken round by waiters in the evening and even that didnt all go.. In the end my Mum was wrapping pieces in napkins and thrusting it upon people as they left! We came home with more or less the full cake in tact. We gave some to all family. friends, neighbours etc and ended up throwing away the top two tiers when we got back from honeymoon as it was spnge/buttercream and had gone off! Such a waste! It did look lovely though and was a nice centre piece/focal point to the room.

we have about 100 in total.

We had 75 day guests and about an extra 25 in the evening.  We had 3 square tiers, 12, 10 and 8 inches.  The top one was kept aside for us, and less than half of the bottom two was eaten.  I expect it depends a little on when it's served and how close it is to dinner, but it certainly didn't go as quickly as we'd thought!

Our daughter had a four tier, carrot cake, lemon drizzle, chocolate and cherry sponge.  It all went as it was served as desert.  They also had a separate one tier traditional fruit cake which was cut up and wrapped for those who wanted to take a piece home with them.

We had 100 guests at the wedding and just under 100 for our post wedding party. My lovely cake lady did two 3-tier cakes for the price of 1. On the wedding day we had half of the bottom tier left over and I had specifically asked for the top tier to not be cut (so in all 1 and a half tiers were eaten) and at the party we had the top two tiers PLUS most of the bottom tier left over!! In summary, hardly anyone ate cake!!

I've been to loads of weddings where I didn't even remember seeing the cake let alone eating it!  Me and OH were talking about this the other day and have come up with a plan. The hotel have told us we will be kicked out of the wedding breakfast room for 1 hour whilst they turn it arond for the evening do.  There is a lovely lawn right outside the room so we are going to have a garden party serving our tea, coffee and wedding cake on the lawn with crocket, mini cricket, boules and other light activities to keep everyone occupied (and stops them wandering off!).

Have you checked out Marks and Spencers traditional wedding cakes on line?  You can get a 4 tier cake which serves just over 100 for £98 - bargain!  They do fruit or sponge and you can buy pillars or foam supports to build up the tiers.  check it out:

You order it online or in store and pick it up a couple of days before the wedding.  Me and OH have pretty much decided this is what we are going to do because cake always gets wasted at weddings.

i had a 12,10 and 8 inch cake- 2 x fruit 1 x chocolate- all the chocolate cake went, had half the 12inch cake left the 8inch fruit was left uncut and all my cake was finished within 2 weeks, i hate fruit cake and my dad loves the damn thing so he was eating it flat out and i gave most of it away so i could get rid of it.. we had 68 day and 150 evening

I've been thinking about this too, most weddings I've been to I've either not seen the cake or have not wanted to eat it after all the other food (and I love cake!). I don't really want to serve it straight after a 3 course meal because it will just get left on the table so I think it may go out with the evening buffet. I've asked the venue to hold back a quarter of each tier as they are different flavours and I will give some to close family and friends when they go the next morning and keep some for myself
