  • Big Smile [:D] Chinese Dresses......Good or Not So good?

    Hi everyone, Big Smile

after living together for a few years my OH and I have decided that we are going to get wed.  I've started to have a look on line at venues, dresses and all the other various tranklements required for a good old knees up...but...oh my goodness...I'm truly astounded at the price of things!  I feel like I've been living with my head in the clouds with regard to the subject of weddings.

On my various trawls around the internet I have come across lots of places selling wedding dresses at really low prices, as far as I can see they are all in China.  I was just wondering if anyone has ever bought a dress from one of these places and if so what was your experience?  Any info would be greatly received.  Thanks.

Congratulations! You have come to the right place.

There are quite a few people on here who have experience with the china dresses, some good some bad.

Im sure they will be along in no time.

However, there are always other ways so save money on dresses - I got mine in the local dress shop sale (was discounted by 65%!)

Plus there are great second hand dresses for very little money too, and usually they have only been worn the once!

    We got hitched 7/7/12

    Hi moonpie1985, and thanks.

Congratulations to you too, you are very close!...Eek

Wow 65% saving is good!  Yes I have had a tentative look on e-bay and seems there are some nice dresses to be had.  Will be keeping a close eye on there.

Far too close for comfort at the moment as not a very organised planner like some of the girls (and guys) on here.

We did save a bunch of money by booking late.

Long story - but we had got a wedding booked a year in advance, but a few months ago we were having second thoughts and decided to cancel it and change to something completely different.

We are now having the wedding of our dreams at almost half price because the venue was running a late availability deal, and we saved even more by halfing the numbers, which has actually made us relax a bit more about the day as it will literally just be immediate family and very close friends, and none of them would ever mind if there were the odd hiccup here or there.

Wonderful that you will be having the wedding of your dreams, it was obviously meant to be.

I'm not the most organised person either so know where you are coming from on that score!

Like you, we will only be inviting close family and friends.  We started out by listing the names of everyone we know and then went through crossing people off until we were happy with who we'd got.

    Hi DaffodilWaves, Big Smile

thanks for that.  Its certainly something we will consider.  I shall be looking to cut costs wherever I can.

Thats good. The other things which have helped us is the ammount of friends / family offering to help.

My older sister is making my jewellery, my younger sister is making the cake and we had offers of photography from other friends. A colleagues daughter is doing my flowers at a very good price, and everything else we have haggled on.

You would be surprised at how much people are willing to move on price when you ask. And if you don't ask, you don't get!

There are also a number of things which I felt weren't nessecary for a wedding and therefore we wont be having them at all.

This will include: favours, chair covers, guest books, large evening buffet, dj etc...

Oh thats really nice of people offering to help with things, I think that makes it all the more special too.  If you could get someone to do your photos that would save you a bundle wouldn't it? From what I have looked at that seems to be one of the big expenses (although I may be wrong).

We are hoping that my OH's Mum will do the flowers which is something she's very good at.  Havent actually asked her yet as we are in the very early stages of planning.  I'm also intending to do my own stationery, I love crafts and so think thats something I could do easily enough, it wont be a big saving as we don't need that many invites etc. but every little helps as they say.

  • Re: Chinese Dresses......Good or Not So good?

    Hiya,

I've only ever had one bride who imported her dress from China.

It was lovely, but the colour was (apparently) significantly different from the picture.

Otherwise, I think she was very happy, she was more than happy with the inconvenience, for the money she saved...

    Hi Pete,

thanks for the info.  Looking on the web sites there are some really great savings to be had but I'm not sure if I dare risk it, think the jury will be out on this one for a while...Confused
