  • Would you take this as read re: venue and decorating

A while ago I asked the wedding coordinator at the hotel if we were allowed to hang any decorations up eg. Bunting, paper pom poms etc and she said we weren't. She has since left and so I cheekily asked the new person the same question and she has replied saying "...no problem at all"? I don't want to say that the previous woman said something different in case she changes her mind Laugh

I also asked about the evening buffet and how many guests they think I should order for and they said for all of them!

I would leave it as in you can put up decorations if she has said you can, you might want to get it in writing in case she goes back on her word.

With regards to the buffet - I would say to cater for 70% of your guests or you could end up with leftovers.

I was thinking about 50-70% for the buffet too as we may get the odd no show and we're probably only going to have 20-30 extra guests. I emailed her back to clarify I can use pins and she said it's fine. Woohoo! I feel much better now as the room is a conference room so not exactly pretty but now I can brighten it up a bit Bounce although it will mean more work the evening before...just need to decide who to nominate to do it for me haha.

Speak to the person that ok'd the decorating and ask her if she would mind confirming that in writing before you start purchasing decorations, tell her you might just be being over cautious but it would put your mind at rest before you spend any cash.

We're catering for 2/3 of our guests in our evening buffet.

I have found thats when it comes to the little thing and venues its best not to ask just do them so they cant say no, it would take a very brave person to refuse a brides requests/plans on the day of the wedding!  (as long as your not breaking one of your terms of your written contract)

Just be careful when putting up and decorations you dont want repairs added to your final bill if pins/blue tac, tape etc damage the walls/paintwork.

confirm it again via email so you have it in writing.  But often it is down to the person themselves, they will enforce such things when they have no need to but have a little bit of a power trip, often with venues if i deal with more than one person i get multiple responses often depending on the bitchiness level of the person i am dealing with and whether they think they are making work for themselves.

I agree with others, try and get it via email so you have proof! But don't mention the old wedding person saying no, not worth it if new one said yes!

My venue have tried to encourage me to cater for all my evening guests (the whole day is amount per guest rather than a venue cost then food), but I'm only going to cater for around 70% and hope they don't say anything when there are more guests than 'paid for'!

  • Re: Would you take this as read re: venue and decorating

HI ITS ACTUALLY IN OUR CONTRACT TO CATER FOR ALL OF OUR EVENING GUESTS AT OUR VENUE  !

SO I WOULD READ THROUGH THEM BEFORE BOOKING JUST TO BE SAFE X X#B X

  • Re: Would you take this as read re: venue and decorating

You've all made some good points here ladies. I will dig out the contract and see what it says. I communicate by email with her anyway so I have everything written down hehe.

I concur with Gracefly! Some venues are very relaxed... others, well, all I can say is, if you'd seen what I'd seen...

My personal opinion is never, ever take anything as read, get it in writing! From all of your suppliers! Then there is absolutely no question.
