  • any mums out there with knowledge on lactose intolerance

    Hi there

F is 27 months and has always had milk/all dairy products.

Over the last couple of days he has been complaining that his tummy hurts, it seems to be like a cramp as a couple of mins later he says its fine. Im not entirely sure its an attention thing though!

Was googling this and found lots of people talking about lactose intolerance.  He has always had 'loose' poo - its never firm.

Now I'm wondering if he is lactose intolerant and worrying!

    Any advice would be great!

    Thanks

Chase used to become lactose intolerant for about a month after a tummy/sickness bug and we'd have to keep him off lactose during that time.  He's 6 and a half now and is fine.  The only thing I can suggest is to remove lactose from his diet for a couple of weeks and see if it makes a difference.  Good luck.

A has this from newborn but outgrew it at about 18 months.  I gave her the lactofree milk, cheese and yoghurts until then. xxx

Howdy, mine are lactose intolerant. B from birth and U after a bout of illness. Apparently viruses can trigger it. We just use Alpro milk and yoghurts and don't tend to have other dairy products anyway. B got considerably better as time has gone on, he can tolerate so much now but if he is unwell he can barely tolerate any.

He doesn't want us anymore - fine, we will have a lovely time without him.

    Thanks all.

Pittabre - what are the symptoms with your 2?   Can stomach cramps and loose poo (not diarrhea) be 'enough'?

That's what the GP decided upon. With B soon after having 'too much' lactose he gets stomach cramps and then his bowels empty pretty fast. But he often has loose stools anyway.

hmmm - so it might just be normal loose poo and him getting my reaction to him saying his tummy hurts! Tongue Tied

It really isn't anything to worry about it - if it were an allergy you would have worse symptoms and would eb soemthing to worry about it. But if you cut back on the dairy and it improves their life it's all goodSmile
