Hi all, my little Matthew will be 3 weeks old on monday and how my life has changed, for the better!!!
please excuse the spelling i am feeding Matthew xx
firstly a big thank you to Lauren25 for being my pp xxx
Matthew was born by routine c section on 16/4/2012, we were firs von the theatre list but due to shortage of midwives we had to wait for one to come from our local birth centre, her name was judith and she was lovely, i was really nervous about having a spinal anaesthetic but i think a got so.worked up about it that i totally zoned out and literally cannot remember that part!!! The feeling of the spinal was really weird, could sort of feel it but couldnt! Anyway Matthew was born at 11:12 crying which was a slight relief, then i cried hearing him crying! Judith cleaned him.up then gave him to hubby, i was bleeding so.blood pressure was dropping and i felt really dizzy and sick so i has lots of bring up blood presaure meds but i was fine, hubby went back to our room with baby and i followed shortly behind with judith hubby was totally besotted, we then decided to call him Matthew, it was never one of the names tgat we thought we would go for but as soon as i saw him i thought of Matthew and hubby said the same, i had skin to skin at the deluvery room and Matthew fed well.
Matthew was an angel the first night literally slept and fed, i did not get a wink of sleep though as there were lots of other babies crying/screaming but the staff just did not seem to want to help at all, i could not wait for morning to come so my hubby could come back, we thought visiting for partners was 8-8 but it was 9-8 so hubby arrived at 8 but was not allowed in, however the flipping bounty woman was doing her rounds, i politly told her i was not interested!!
I wanted to go back to our local birth centre for help with breastfeeding and time to recover but the Sister in charge told us there were no beds, i was gutted and was going to go home then but tge shift changed and the new sister had somehow already arranged for us to go to the birth center, i was thrilled, we had to get there ourselves though so hubby drove very slowly, we got to the birth centre qnd what a different world it was, they were lovely, i thanked the sister for the room as i said there were no beds to which she looked amazed, and said that they always have beds there and are never full then went onto say that it was probably the case that the midwife couldnt be bothered to discharge us!!!! Judith came to visit us to see if we were sticking to Matthew, we went home the following day.
Breastfeeding was very tough the first few days and i can see how people give up as Matthew constantly wanted to feed and was not latching properly so my nipples were very very sore cracked and vleeding, i contacted the breastfeeding midwife lady from the birth centre when the pain got to bad and was going to express and she was at my door within 30 mins and called 3 days in a row to see how i was getting on and we certainly cracked it!!
I love being a mum xxx
