  • food inspiration needed!

Found an evening venue for quite cheap room hire as im on a tight budget but it is still beautiful and probably wont need any extra decoration, the only problem was that the food was super fancy and my family only like proper english food, the odd curry and hardly anything adventurous, whereas my OHs family will try anything since their chinese and have grown up eating all sorts.

I told my venue this but that i really love the room and they said if i can give them some ideas of the food i want then they will speak with the chef and see what they can do, now im stuck with the dilemma of choosing meals that are suitable for everyone but at the same time i still want to keep the elegance and for it not to just look like pub grub

Can you share what kind of foods you are having for a 3 course meal to give me inspiration please?? xx

  • Re: food inspiration needed!

    Our three course are:

Leek & potato soup OR chicken liver parfait

Ribeye steak, mash and peppercorn sauce OR chicken in chorizo sauce

Eton mess or warm chocolate brownie

    Hope that helps!

  • Re: food inspiration needed!

the steak sounds good the sauce would be a problem, i think i will have most problem with the starters because most of them dont like soup and pate and melon or the other usual things

  • Re: food inspiration needed!

Fussy eaters are a nightmare aren't they !! Starter suggestions .... Poached salmon on a bed of lettuce with possibly a chive and cream sauce ... Smoked chicken. .. Bruschetta .. Garlic mushrooms ... Plain chicken skewers with a satay sauce on the side .. Individual quiches ??? Just a few ideas ... Good luck !!! Can you offer the guests a choice when you send the invites out that way you could cater to those who are adventurous as well  :) we are having Sunday roast as we are getting married on a sunday (our venue will let us pick a selection from the menu).

My brother had a 8 tier cheese cake instead of a wedding cake, so like all different types of cheeses tiered up to the top with grapes, figs, pomegranate etc around the sides, absolutely beautiful and really different.

  • Re: food inspiration needed!

Ive decided to keep the same desserts that they had on their menu as they are the things that everyone will like.

Ive made a slight change on their rump of lamb with puy lentils, im going to ask for rump of lamb with baby potatoes, seasoned veg and minted gravy instead so its still the same meat and they wont have to deviate too much, im thinking of offering 3 starters, a salad a soup and then something for the fussys that dont eat either but thats proving the hard part atm ive decided on a chicken ceaser salad for that not sure what soup yet, still need to find at least one other main

As awful as it sounds coz im not a fussy eater , things like this really annoy me .

My sister is a fusspot with food and just likes what she likes. If i was you i would chose what i wanted and then in small print , stating if they arent happy with these choices sausages or chicken nuggets with chips and beans will also be made available...but i am a cow bag lol x

haha yeah i wish i could say that but i care too much about what people will think of me lol ive just gone with traditional lamb and chicken roasts for the main just need 1 more starter which is proving to be a pain, i cant complain about it though as its also me that wont eat salad or soup lol i think i should ask if they can do a seperate menu for the children aswell

  • Re: food inspiration needed!

ahh my OH is a fussy eater its one thing we really clash with in our relationship because i'm a real foodie and love fine dinning and eating out, trying different restaurants and styles of food where all I get from my OH is 'i don't like anything on the menu' so i feel your pain!

... what do you have against honeymoons, it is basically s3x with room service.

Perhaps you could talk to caterers & offer two or three choices (that can be made beforehand by your guests) that cater for traditional British type dishes such as roast beef or lamb & a more spicy or oriental type dish so that you can cover the different tastes.

My brother had his reception in an Italian restaurant. They offered a fish dish, lamb dish & chicken dish all with vegetables & this menu was sent to us with RSVPs so we could choose. The children could pick from a specific children's menu with smaller portions & it seemed to work well.

    Smile

  • Re: food inspiration needed!

Thanks for all the ideas, me and my OH sat down and scoured lots of food sites yesterday and finally decided on:

Starters:  Caeser salad, leek and potato soup or chicken skewers with dips

Mains: Rump of lamb, baby potatoes, seasonal veg and minted gravy or Roast chicken, roasted potatoes, seasonal veg and gravy (everyone loves a cooked dinner so easiest choice)

Desserts: Lemon tart with creme fraise, strawberry cheesecake or chocolate ganache with vanilla ice cream (which are the desserts already on their menu)

Have also asked what they can offer for children so hopefully they can arrange all of this for me :)
