Smear tests after pregnancy

I was due one just as I fell pregnant with O. So obviously didn't have one. My GPs have written to me again about going for one.

This is my questio: Do you have to wait for your periods to return to go for one? I understand when I am having my normal cycles when I need to book an appointment during that cycle. O is 11 weeks now and mine haven't returned yet (thank goodness!)

Oh Im so glad you posted this Mossy, its reminded me I was due when pg with S so I need to book too!  Will keep an eye on this as I cant remember when you go!

We usually say at least 3 months post delivery, some will say 6.  It doesn't matter about periods or feeding

I had one about 5 weeks after birth.

My GP said to leave at least 3 months because of changes to the cervix.

From what I gather, the reason they say to wait 3 months is because of the changes to the cevix (as Margot says). This means that you may get a false abnormal result.

The reason I had mine so soon after birth is because I was due a smear near the beginning of my pregnancy and was anxious to get it sorted asap.

I was in the same boat Nixxy, due for a smear whilst pregnant following previous abnormal results but I was still sent away until 3 months later.

Like most things nhs, I guess it depends on your area. Always strikes me as odd that it differs so much.

I got a letter last week to say I was due a smear and was wondering if they send you another reminder later because I will forget by the time baby  arrives.

I had one 5 months ago when A was 6 months and my periods hadn't returned, just explained to the receptionist who booked it that I was bfing.  Incidentally, I have to have another one tomorrow

I had one when J was 6 months old. I was still bfeeding hadnt had a period before going

I had one about 8 weeks after having C and can honestly say after the pain of childbirth I never felt a thing!!!!
