  • Budget recipes needed please

Need to save up a bit before I start mat leave in September, so could do with reducing my shopping bills.

Going to Asda in the morning so need to write my list tonight.

Can anyone reccomend any cheapie recipes suitable for 2 adults and a 16 month old? Thanks

My mum has been doing the meals from Sainsburys "Feed your family for a fiver" campaign and has raved about the meals - some of the recipes are here http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/family/tasty+ideas/feed_family_for_a_fiver/meal_ideas/meal_ideas.htm

Cheap meals here tend to be things like spag bol, macaroni cheese, tomato pasta, corned beef hash, getting a whole chicken and making it last 3 meals, ie roast dinner, chicken curry and chicken with pasta.  Can give you recipes for a veg spag bol and a bacon risotto which I'm sure are pretty cheap if you like?

    Thanks so far Thanks

Sleepydreamer - would love the bacon risotto one - H keeps saying he fancies risotto but I can only ever find veggie recipes.

Just thought of another - I buy a whole chicken and can normally get 3 meals out of it:

    1) Roast chicken & roast potatoes

    2) Use leftover chicken to make chicken sandwiches for lunch

    3) Use the carcass, small amount of leftover chicken, vegetables and rice to make a chicken broth

WSS - it is certainly my best saver at the moment - in fact I have broth on the stove right now.

But half will make soup, and the rest I will use as the basis of a chicken, Bacon and tomato Risotto buy adding cooking bacon (another top saving tip) and a tin of chopped tomatoes (bulk bought when they were uber cheap in Lidl!)

Hi Kazalia! Sorry can't help but just wanted to say hi and I love your scan pic. Do you know what you're having by any chance?!

  • Re: Budget recipes needed please

here's the link to the bacon risotto, it's super easy as it's done in the oven so doesn't require as much attention as other risottos Big Smile

I find minced beef goes very far when cooked with mushrooms onions and carrots or whatever available to bulk it out.

Lasagne, spag bol, enchiladas, nachos, chilli mince and potatoes?

Also the slow cooker chicken recipes on the Wiki are fab and go a long long way x

bean burgers, falafal, bean chilli, chickpea curry to name a few Stick out tongue
