  • Weekend Wedding

Am just starting to plan our wedding and have been thinking about venues etc. I love the idea of having a weekend wedding either hiring a country house for a weekend (or mid week ) or any rustic venue i.e. a farm or barn with some accomodation but the option for guest to camp. Probably 50+ guests to stay over. Would love to keep is as informal as possbile. We are currently living in Bristol but are originally from Yorkshire any ideas for either part of the country would be welcomed!! Thank you!

    Congratulations and welcome to Hitched.

There are things you will have to take into consideration in terms of the timing of your wedding, which comes down to two things, cost versus guests.  A mid week wedding will be much cheaper and reflected throughout all the suppliers costs.  However, people may not be able to get off work during mid week and you may get less guests.  I know many who have had mid week weddings to get rid of some guests without having to not invite them lol

I want to do something like this too - let me know if you have any luck finding anywhere near Bristol. I'm finding it much harder than I thought to find somewhere.

Have you thought about a marquee wedding? Just an idea...

I also covered a wedding where the couple had put up Tipi's, for their guests to stay in... It was an outside company, they came along, set them up, and they were really swish inside. Everybody loved them and was talking about them... seriously, I wanted to stay!

I don't think this is the company that supplied the ones at the wedding I attended, but it's a similar sort of thing.

To hire a house out for the weekend that also doubles up as a wedding ceremony venue will cost an awful lot of money.  If you have a healthy budget then I would highly recommend the bijou wedding company:

They have 5 exclusive houses to rent which you can get married in.  Their philosophy is that you rent out a luxurious millionaires house for your friends and family to chill out/party in.  I went to a wedding at Cain Manor in Farnham and it was one of the best weddings I have ever been too as the venue was stunning and the quality of service was faultless.  The accommodation is a little limited but other guests stayed at hotels nearby and hung around Cain manor during the daytime.  Warning - this is not cheap!!

I know another person who's daughter hired out a house in Gloucestershire for the weekend but can't remember what it is called.  I'll get the details and will get back to you.

I'm not planning to have my ceremony in the house/farm I will hopefully hire - we just want to have our reception there with a marquee etc. and then be able to stay there as well with our family.

Very simple, DIY all the way!
