Luke's ENT review at Bristol today. 16 weeks post decannulation (when they took his breathing tube out of his neck) and the stoma (hole) is still very much open. Surgeon agreed that it needs a surgery to close. Expect the date to be in about 6 weeks. We were also told to expect for him to need to go to PICU (intensive Care) after theatre for about 24 hrs (?) on the vent (life support under sedation) to allow the site to heal- said he's had cases where children with a good cough reflex wake and the first cough can cause the stitches to open. pleased that there is a plan foward but not looking forward to him being back on the vent, even if it is for a short time. the doctor said that he's done really well, we just need to make him waterproof now!

Sorry to hear that Luke needs another op and hospital stay but at least it will be brief and just another step on the road to his improved health. It's great to hear another really positive update from you x
