  • OT - Short breaks in the north

When H gets back next month we will hopefully be having a couple of days away. Can you recommend anywhere 'oop north', preferably The Lakes, that kind of area? Bonus points if you can take dogs but we can leave puppy girl at in-laws if need be.

Why not look at somewhere around Coniston? It's a beautiful part of the world, lots of walks and I am sure you would be able to find a hotel/b&b that allows you to take your dog. I can't help on the hotels though as I have only stayed in massive group cottages.

Ooh will do thanks. Is it a fairly busy place? Just after a few pubs for tea at night, nothing too wild Indifferent

We spent a lot of time in the village pubs. It's not as busy as Windermere etc but you wouldn't be lonely either. Your other option would be to go up Northumberland way. There are some beautiful places up there and loads to do. We often drive up there from Newcastle to walk.

I've never been to the lakes but it's on my to do list!

For other Oop North nice places how about Whitby with a day trip to Scarborough? I Love it round there.

Or as TNP says, Northumberland is gorgoues, Bamborough is beautiful, and right by the sea.

    Have fun!

I love Coniston, it's one of my favourite places in the UK. It is a bit quiet though, especially at this time of year..... If you want somewhere in the lakes that's a little bit busier but not wild then I'd recommend Ambleside. There are loads of dog-friendly places to stay there as it's great walking country and there are a few pubs so you'll have something to do in the evening.

Alternatively, if you are looking for a city break then Manchester is brill! Not sure about the puppy though....

    Have fun Big Smile

LMAO @ Altrincham's tourist attractions! Also try Sale (Washway Lane is lush) and perhaps Wythenshaw! x
