  • Being Over Weight Whilst Pregnant?

I'm not going to lie, i am over weight, probably a bit too much.

Even though i lost weight for my wedding, i am still over weight and this really concerns me that it may cause problems and complications etc.

    Any stories or advise?

My bmi was 30 when I got pregnant this time (iv had a few pregnancies close together so hadn't shifted the weight iyswim). Anyway Its advised you go in the higher dose of folic acid if your bmi is 30 or over. It's 5mg and your gp prescribes it. You should also be in the higher dose of you have illnesses such as crohns. The reasoning is that the folic acid isn't absorbed as well if you have a higher bmi.

I can't remember the cut off but if your bmi Is a certain level as well Then they like you to be tested for gestational diabetes about 26 weeks pregnant to Keep an eye that gd doesn't develop

there's a fab weight loss thread here daily that a lot of girls do and you can be a member of slimming world if you are pregnant (but not ww). Also if your bmi Is over a certain amount (sorry can't remember what) then the mw can refer you to A healthy eating in pregnancy group which is run by slimming world

I don't think you look overweight in your photo though.

Fab thanks for all that info.

I am over weight, the doctor has told me. But the last time i went to the doctor in Dec they knew i'd be trying for a baby and obviously knows i am over weight, but didnt really give me any extra info i may want or need.

I am going to continue to excerise and eat healthy and stuff like i did before the wedding, although with just coming back from honeymoon and xmas being just before the wedding i have probably put my weight back on and more!!

and Thanks, that picture is quite flattering, if you saw the rest of me you'd know lol

    Hi there,

I too am over weight, being a size 16-18. Our doctor didn't give us any info on complications or anything either, just to eat a balanced diet and exercise.

I've been worrying that my weight will cause issues or something too. I know I'm not really being at all helpful, but i know for me it's nice to know im not the only one with these concerns.

All you and I can do really, is to eat a balanced diet, and exercise, not really too loose weight but more focussing on being healthy :D

Bit of a ramble, but i hth in some way x

You are classed as overweight if BMI is over 25. Mine was 31 when I got pregnant and was put on Consultant led care because of it but because I was quite healthy he didn't want to see me. I was tested for GD but I didn't develop it thankfully. I know some of the girls on here have had a horrible time with it.

I wasn't allowed a water birth either because of being consultant led.

I think if i carry on what i am doing, eating healthy and excersising, just by like walking and stuff, its being healthy but i would think i will loose a bit of weight anyway obviously if i'm pregnant that wouldnt happen but before i am, i would hope i do.

Congrats on your pregnancy, hope all goes well!

You lot are so helpful :)

I was overweight when I had T - not sure of BMI but was a good size 20 and I had no additional care or follow up and was midwife led until the point of needing ventouse.  I guess it depends on how proactive your midwife is and whether they have specific concerns?

I would say that eating well and exercising have to be a winner regardless of starting weight

    Good luck
