We have a shared one and separate ones too. Most things go in and out of the shared one except my wages which go into my account and then I transfer money over by standing order each month. This is about to change though and tehy will get paid into the joint account

H earns more than double what I earn, all the bills get paid out of the joint account and if it needs more money in it I transfer more from my account. If I am buying things for me like clothes I take it out of my account mostly so H doesn't know how much I've spent!!!!!

When we got engaged we got a joint account but kept our own accounts too. When we got married we got rid of the seperate accounts (kept just to get a better rate on opening saving accounts). So we just have a joint account that everything goes in and out of. Too be honest, all we've done is save money for a wedding, a new house & a new baby over the last 18 months so haven't really spent on ourselves. I also wanted to make sure we joint account before I started on Maternity leave as I didn't want to be asking him for money. It's me that keeps track of the money most of the time!!

We have 2 joint accounts, I have 1 of my own and then we have our own savings accounts.

we have a joint account and all money goes i and comes out of it. been this way since iv been on mat leave.

when i go back to work h money will go into the joint account and my money will go into my account. i pay the bills that come out monthly and they are as much as i earn so that account never gets touched. we then live off of hs money and pay some bills out of this to.

we only do this cos i get paid monthly and he is weekly so its easier to work things out this way.

but all our money overall is shared x

We have a joint one that we put the same into each month to cover mortgage, council tax, electric, gas, water, any other bills...

We use our credit cards to pay for everything during the month, then it's paid off in full at the end.

Me and H have a shared bank account and have done since we moved in together 9 years ago.  We both have a joint ISA account and individual ISA's as well as two joint bonds that we set up when I received my redundancy money.

At the moment I am SAHM and I just take out what I need at the beginning of the week and that's it.  H tells me I can take out what I want but I don't really go anywhere to spend much money so don't really bother that much in taking money out.

Same as OP, shared account for bills which we both pay into and our own current accounts as well where the remainder of our wages stay.

We have one joint current account.  We also have one joint savings account.

When we got married we shared everything including all our money, now I'm not working we only have the one income and as it's our money it needs to be in our account.

Totally seperate. There's no way i'd have a joint account.

  • Re: OT being nosey, do you....

We both have our own current account and a joint household one/savings one.

As I don't earn anymore, H pays for everything and then transfers me a monthly allowance to buy all the food for the house, petrol for my car and anything Jemima or I need. I prefer it this way. I know what I've got to play with and don't have to ask for money/have my spending analysed. It's made me thrifty. I also now have access to my H's bank account so I can check up on him anytime I want Laugh

Love Mummy to Jemima - January 2011 - 10 weeks early at exactly 30 weeks Love

We have separate accounts, a joint account for all the bills and a joint savings account.  We both pay in a set amount into the joint account each month - we pay in different amounts to reflect the fact that we earn different amounts.

We just have the one joint account plus attached savings accounts. We each have an ISA but the savings are joint. We don't have our 'own' money - everything is completely joint.

Works for us - the only downside is it is a bit of a mare getting birthday presents - I have to tell H he can't look at the credit card bill until his birthday!
