when do babies get brains?

I mean when do they start to think.

little 1 rolls over on her tummy and doesnt like it so crys, i turn her over and she does it again less than 1 minute later and cries again.

when do they start to think? if i dont like something i dont do it.

sorry i have no answer! 

In my case it never developed, I'm still as daft now as I was when I was born,  as for everyone else, I have no answer!

I would imagine from in the womb (no Idea what gestation) but baby moves so is thinking about moving, baby sucks thumb so is thinking about comfort, when baby born it cries so is looking for comfort, etc

its more a case of learning cause and effect in that case. she doesn't yet associate that the movement she's making results in her ending up on her tummy. Not sure when sarah learnt it but she often forgets it! If I kick connie mummy shouts at me, or if i eat my dinner I get pudding are regularly forgotten but she must have been about 18 months when she realised that pressing buttons on the remote did things to the tv...

The repetalian brain is one of the first things that developed once the zygote has developed.

But imagine be dropped in a world that is totally different to your previous one - going from dark, wet, noisy and liquid to a dry bright quiet gas absed environment. Not only that be being inside a machine that you have no idea how the controls work. You are also surrounded by a species that you have no idea how to communicate with. Frankly the rate at which they learn is astonishing. They have to learn how to breath and eat. Before that it was all supplied straight into their body.

BTW another point is that babies mainly learn by imitating but how can they imitate breathing and feeding, rolling over and crawling when no-one around them does it so that they can copy. Its amazing stuff
