  • Party Food and Party Bags for small children

    Hi All

Sorry, I know I'm not on here much, but needed a quick answer if you don't mind? Noah is 2 on Wednesday and we are having a swimming party this Sunday. I'm trying to write a shopping list for food, but am not sure what things to buy. Has anyone got any bright ideas?

The food needs to be dairy-free, as Noah is allergic to all things dairy, and if there's any way of throwing some healthy stuff in, all the better!

Also, what (cheap) things would you put in party bags for children ranging from 2-8??

    Thanks

Could you do individual food boxes or is that too much hassle? Sandwiches, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, raisins, fresh fruit and crisps - could do those as platters too if easier.

Grapes, strawberries, cucumber sticks, carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, mini sandwiches (is bread dairy?), crisps.

Party bag, a small packet of sweets, a cheap little car/train, little game?  You can get packs of party bag stuff quite cheap from somewhere like wilkos, they have games, whistles etc.

My son had a 3rd birthday last week and the kids nearly finished off all the cocktail sausages, strawberries and grapes. I was also surprised how many went for pasta salad and cucumber. Pop corn was also a hit! Party bags had bubbles, balloon, party blowers, cake and a little bag of sweets. ASDA have cheap party bag fillers.

Brilliant thanks everyone. I ahdn't even thought about crudite type stuff, I am rubbish at this kind of thing. I think I need to go for platters as we are transporting food to the leisure centre!

Snow White - most bread isn't dairy no, so will edf do sandwiches.

I see a trip to the local party shop coming on at lunch time!

I'm not sure what the rules are on me mentioning this so apologies if it crosses a line, but I run a small business doing party bags for kids of all ages so if you want to PM me, I'm happy to try and help :-)

Dairy-free food - fruit and veg sticks are always good. Ice-cream if you wanted it is also do-able if you get the Worthenshawe's (sp?) stuff from Asda. Totally dairy, soya and (I think) gluten free. They do vanilla, strawberry and chocolate. If you're up to baking little cupcakes, Vitalite is also dairy-free and brilliant for baking. It's what I use!

    Thanks Curious Orange.

Unfortunately the party is on Sunday (disorganised? moi?) so won't ahve time to order anything now.

We do have the Worthenshawe's ice-cream for Noah, but won't have anywhere cold to store it for the party. A friend is baking a cake for me, God bless her.

    Wave hello lovely!

WEES re crudites and things like that, ham sandwiches, breadsticks (always a hit for some reason!) cherry toms, apple slices, grapes, strawbs.

For party bags what about little hair clips for the girls?  Im useless with boys things but my nephews (2.5 and 1) loved little cars, fake glasses etc?

    I can't believe N is nearly two!

    Hello FF Wave

I know, can you believe we're at second birthday time already? Sob Bawl

I am going to find something pretty for the 1 girl coming! None of my friends have grils, can you believe it?? The only girl is J15ess' Mabel!! Madness.

    Breadsticks, good plan!

I've filled J's party bags already (party 3rd Dec). It’s her 4th birthday. She has friends & their siblings ranging in age from 6 months to 4.5.

Girls are having: note pad, pencil, rubber, ring, wrist bands, balloon

Boys are having: note pad, pencil, rubber, pull back car, mini glider, balloon

Hawkins Bazaar do loads of little bits & pieces from 25p - rings for the girls, note pads, mini gliders for the boys. Party Pieces did some pull back cars for the boys for 30p each. I also got peppa pig pencils (6) and rubbers (6) from the 99p shop which I split into bags & H bought some hello kitty wrist bands off amazon for 50p for 12, so they got 2 each of those.

The 6 month old just has a teether (reduced to 40p in Tesco) in his party bag! Well, I couldn’t leave him out could I. All in all, I spent about £9 including the party bags, mini bag of haribo and a balloon in each.

As for food: sandwiches, mini sausages, mini sausage rolls, carrot/cucumber/pepper sticks & dip, cherry tomatoes, bread sticks, crisps, pizza bites, fruit usually goes down well at J’s parties she’s had – grapes, mini satsumas, strawberries, blueberries.

I'm in the process of doing the party bags for Milly's b'day next week.

Everyone gets crayons, a small colouring book, box of stickers and a fun-size choc bar. Girls also get hair clips and a bracelet, boys get a wooden whistle shaped like a train. I'll chuck cake in there too to bulk it out.
