I can see a few reasons why this doesn't fit you, none of which are to do with the type of bra you are wearing. Firstly the shoulder seams are too long - they should be resewn about 2 inches further in - that is why there is more cleavage, because the shoulder seams are sewn together in totally the wrong place, so the sleaves and neckline are hanging off you rather than sitting comfortably like in the first picture. Secondly, I think I would also alter the side seams by about 2cm or so to make the bust more fitted to your chest, as at the moment is looks a bit loose on you. To fix this I would unpick all of the lace, resew the main part of the dress, and resew the lace to the bodice which actually fits you properly, tweaking it where necessary. HTH!

different bra? was the 1st photo shot bey someone sitting down. You need to show them both photos Yhe dress seems a larger size and the sleeves don't hang the same as they are longer. It's like it needs lifting at the shoulders

Just to re-iterate what has already been mentioned - I really think it could be your cycle. A few days before and during my period my boobs and tummy are alot bigger. So much so, I plan to go on the contraceptive pill just so I can attempt to mess my cycle up as I am due on a few days after our wedding date :)

I think your shoulders on the dress need lifting. It is possible as I have had mine done. This means that the waistband lifts and gives a better boob cover IYKWIM.

Lovely dress by the way. I wish I could have a photo of mine before the day.

I would def go back and speak to your seamstress about having the dress lifted at the shoulders. I don't understand why that can't be done to give you a bit more coverage on your boobs.

Spanx wise - thank you for taking my original comment in the way it was intended! I have bought these http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_158010420986_-1?breadcrumb=Home%7Etxtspanx

Sexy? Nope but they smooth my tummy and ass! They also do them that come up to just under your bra but I didn't find these very comfortable and would struggle to get them down. As your dress has straps you may find a full slip more comfortable instead.

I don't think you need to worry about fat at all! HTH x

  • Re: fitting - dress looks different - just want to cry

OP here. Thank you for the further comments! I also think that the straps must be altered, I had just thought it's not possible. It will probably be quite expensive and I'm not happy about this since the sample dress had fitted perfectly and now all this hassle to change a brand new dress.

I feel like I just want to get the sample dress and exchange it for the one I have - but then I paid lots of money for a new one... Would any of you do that?

    Thanks!

    A

P.S. I went and bought a new bra at John Lewis with a nice lady who helped me find a perfect size, and a flexees body slimmer (http://www.johnlewis.com/65840/Product.aspx).

I'd go instore and compare your dress with the sample to make sure they are the same size, someone else had a similar problem on her where the sample fitted but the dress they'd had ordered in the same size didn't.

If you feel better in the sample then all you can do is ask the shop what they can do for you, partial refund maybe, especially if there is a difference in the size.

Hope you get it sorted out x

I don't know if it's just me but your posture appears different in the two sets of pictures, which would certainly have an impact on how the dress looks on you. In the original photos you appear to be standing with a more positive attitude, giving it some sass with the hands on hips etc. It's almost like in the fittings you're showing your unconfidence physically, which will make your boobs look lower etc etc

It's a fab dress, stick your shoulders back, boobs out and you'll knock 'em dead!

This will depend on how the dress sit at the armhole... If you lift from the strap the armhole becomes smaller underneath the arm and will a)not look / sit right and b) will be uncomfortable.

Like everyone has sugested a good pair of underwear will work wonders.

I have to agree.  This was my first opinion when I first saw the two sets of images.  Your shoulders seem to be sloping in the second set of images.  The change in posture could be caused by lots of things but I do know in my job, sloping shoulders (something I am cursed with) can cause all sorts of issues with getting things to fit correctly.  Stangely enough in the first set of images your shoulders seem more square.  This might just be how you felt on the day maybe.  Also the first set of pictures are far better quality, the lighting, your posture, composure etc.

Other than this, I know nothing about dresses.  Sorry.

I hope it all works out well for you.

It does look a little bit different around the boob area I think, does it just need picnhing in at the shoulders/under the arms? I think your posture is slightly different which is an easy one! Where you wearing different shoes i.e. heels the first time round?

I think the shoulder straps are closer together in the new dress and also the top half is dropped futher down and all needs lifting up ! Did you have someone lift it at the shoulders ? I too would compare with the sample. You are standing uncomfortably in it too which won't help at all.

  • Re: fitting - dress looks different - just want to cry

What a pretty dress!!!!!!   I went through a similar thing I loved my dress and then I really didnt like it but I've come back around again.  Time of the month definately has something to do with it!!! and underwear.   Id go back with your new bra, do your makeup really nicely and your hair and then try it again!

I think it looks beautiful, really pretty!

  • Re: fitting - dress looks different - just want to cry

    OP here.

Thank you all! I went back and tried on my dress again. Then I compared it to the sample dress which the shop lady brought to the seamstress for me. I was wearing a wonderbra and spanx. The sample dress definitely fit better again. But it had already been sold to someone who was supposed to pick it up the next day, so I could not get it :(

They measured the cleavage of both dresses after I insisted, and they said it is the same length!?!?

The seamstress talked me out of shortening the shoulder straps because under the arms it will become to tight and she will have to put a seam on the side sleave which will have to be cut (she cannot take the whole lace off apparently). So I will go back next week...

We will definitely pin up the side sleeves a bit to lift them up.

I don't want that line between the boobs to show too much, so I might not wear a push-up or try and find another solution, maybe have some lace sewn in the cleavage.

It's really great to get all this advice from you!
