A colleague passed this article on to me, which I thought was really interesting:

I'm not sure what they have to do legally though...

oh goodness not sure what to say on this one...poor parents having to explain that one to all their friends and family. I guess up side is that prem baby was ok.
Really not sure about legalities but must be some as presume they registered birth etc x
A...born 2nd April 2011
Mum was telling me about this the other day, i didn't think it would be possible, but obviously it is.
I can easily understand how it happened... baby born early the medics are more concerned about keeping LO alive that worrying about what gender it is.
gosh thats a shock x
BABY HAS HYPOSPADIS , SO AT BIRTH & MORE SO IN A PREM BABY, GENITALS DO LOOK LIKE A SWOLLEN LABIA & ENLARGED CLITORIS. WHEN FRED GOT TO GOSH WHEN HE WAS BORN THEIR WERE 2 BOYS WHO WERE ANNOUNCED FEMALE AT BIRTH, BUT THEN LATER SEEN AS MALE.
Mrs JMP - do you knwo what they had to do legally wise then? Was it complicated getting documents changed etc?
It must have been a shock for them but I can see how it would happen
