Congratulations on your wedding engagement, My name is Adam and I am a professional Wedding DJ. I understand the stress involved in planning a wedding and I hope to assist in the smooth running of your entertainment. I am not advertising myself just wish to offer you some advice gained by my professional experience.
    Mobile Disco Vs Band?
A lot of couples debate having a disco or a band, to be honest it’s totally up to you. There are advantages and limitations for both parties. The advantage of having a band is the aspect of live music being played at your venue however this has its limitations and requests are often declined due to the band not knowing the music.  One thing I’d strongly advise is go to see your band live before you book them to avoid any disappointments on the day and ensure the same band members will be present at your wedding. If you require a lighting show a band rarely provides this, they tend to bring stage lighting for themselves only and not the dance floor. The advantages of having a mobile disco is the vast music collection the DJ will have and in this day and age many DJ’s have the ability to legally download a track instantly therefore avoiding any upset or disappointment.  Also most DJ’s take pride in their light shows which adds a fun atmosphere to any venue. The only disadvantage I can think of when booking a DJ is the music is not live. Please take the following information as a must, who ever you decide to book be it band or mobile disco please ensure that the party carries Public Liability Insurance as this is often a specific requirement for venue management, also PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) is highly regarded as it insures the safety of the equipment being used.  Any professional will happily forward you a copy of this documentation.
    Which Mobile Disco or Band?
Many clients seem to book the first entertainer they contact, this is a huge limitation. DJ A might offer a specific package however DJ B will offer a bespoke service (moodlighting, background music, etc) at the same price, I would greatly recommend shopping around.  This also applies to bands, Band A may play a certain style of music where as band B may have a more flexible library of songs. More often than not a band will provide a list of songs that they can perform on their website. Please check the music is appropriate for you.
    Prior your wedding day.
I feel its strongly recommended that the happy couple and their entertainer meet it person and if at all possible show them the venue, the advantage of this is both parties can assess the needs to personalise your day and advise the happy couple on any outstand issues. Furthermore meeting your entertainer enhances the personal relationship between both parties rather than a voice on a phone or an Email.
    On Your Big Day
All entertainers appreciate the tension  involved on your wedding day and wants to make your day stress free as possible. I often recommend assigning an usher to the entertainer team as a point of contact to answer any questions should they arise, leaving the happy couple free to enjoy their guests. Lastly but certainly not least your first dance, many couples leave this to the last minute, the first dance should be a personal moment between the bride and her groom. Please choose a song with meaning to you and not a suggestion from the entertainer as this enhances your magical moment.
I hope this aids you in selecting the right entertainment for you and your guests. Wishing you every happiness in the future. If I may assist you further please do not hesitate to email me at adam@londonmobilediscoservice.co.uk
