  • Recommend your breast pumps!

    Morning everyone.

My little boy is now six weeks old and im currently exclusively breastfeeding.  Im considering buying a breast pump so that i can express so my partner can give some feeds, and i can build up a stock in the freezer so i am able to be parted from my little boy for longer than an hour when necessary. Can anyone recommend their breast pump? Is electric better than manual? I dont want to go and fork out a lot of money and be dissapointed.

    Any help appreciated.

I've had the Avent Isis, Tommee Tippee and the Medela mini electric.

My favourite was the Avent Isis, so comfy and efficient.

The Medela was good for ease of use, although not as fast or efficient as the Isis for me.

Don't ever go near a Tommee Tippee, mine was flipping painful, like a torture device!

I tried a Tommee Tippee hand pump initially. I hardly got anything out and it was incredibly uncomfortable. I wouldn't go near one of those again either.

I got a medela swing (electric) after that and it's brilliant although a bit pricey (I got it on sale for £75). I like the fact you can use it with batteries as well as the mains. I have been known to express whilst going up the motorway (obviously as a passenger rather than driving!).

I had the Medela electronic breast pump and thought it was fabulous!  A friend had the Avent Isis manual and used to complain her hands cramped form all the manual pumping...

The Medela is pricey, but so worth it!

I have a Medela mini pump - its small, battery or mains powered and really easy to use

I like the fact its tiny - it means if I do go out and leave B I can have it in my bag and express off when things get a bit full

Get some of the Medela bags (easier to freeze than bottles) and they then just go onto the pump so its really tiny
