  • Walking on Tiptoes

I am a little worried about Luke I have noticed that he is walking on his tiptoes, he doesn’t do it all the time but he’s doing more often recently.

Don’t know if it’s a habit he’s got into.  I don’t know what to do about it, do I do nothing and just monitor him or do I try and encourage him not to do it, or do I take him to the drs?????

Aaron is almost 23 months and has just started to do in the last few weeks .. I think its because he has just learnt that he can and is having fun with it

    Aaron born 02.05.08 weighing 6lb 9oz

A does this but I think she's just messing about. She also walks on her knees or backwards sometimes. I'd think that so long as they're not doing it all the time then there can't be a physical reason for it. If it becomes *most* of the time it might be worth getting looked at in case it's becoming a bad habit I suppose?

You just reminded me that J would do this all the time in his early walking days. He is fine now!

I think lots of children do this when they first start walking.  I would see a doctor if it carried on when they were older.  My nephew did this and it became apparent his achilles didn't lengthen properly so he had an operation when he was 3/4 years on both legs.  He used to always walk on tip toes but is now fine.

Flynn does this still now at 5.  He's been referred twice, once at 2 and again last year to check there is no physical reason (there isn't) but I'm constantly trying to get him to walk properly.  The physio recommended he wears boots when he can to make it more difficult and she gave me some exercises to try with him.

I'd speak to your HV/dr if it's not a short phase and ask them to get him referred and checked out.
