  • Swing, Rocker or Bouncer Chair?

Mine have never liked the bouncer chairs but have always liked the swing, our second had a swing which reclined and he loved being in it even if not switched on. I used to take mine everywhere!

My cousin who has recently had a baby has the rocker and her little girl loves it and she can eat whilst rocking baby in it with your foot, however I would rather have the swing which is the same but obviously works by itself.

If I am honest - the last one looks like a total rip off! We had a boucer chair from John Lewis - the cheapest one they did & it was fine. J used to sit in it while I was in the shower/cooking etc.

My sil had one of those chairs that plays music & vibrate & her son used to fall asleep in it. Very handy!

My friend has a swing similar to the one you have chosen & although it takes up much more room, it seems brilliant to me & I wished we'd got one when J was a baby.

There's not much difference, really. Except that some newborns love a swinging motion and others like a bouncing motion and others don't like any motion at all Laugh

If you can try out someone else's first before buying you'll know if your baby will like it. That's my advice based on buying one that had a vibrate motion which my daughter never liked. We could saved money by simply getting a rocker one if we'd have known.

  • Re: Swing, Rocker or Bouncer Chair?

The only reason I like the Rocker is that it's Mille & Boris and therefore matches everything else! Tis very expensive though for what it is as you say Laugh

If you HAD to choose one, which would it be?

The Swing is currently cheaper than the Rocker anyway so we could order that one and take advantage of the better price. The only thing is that I like the idea of it all happening automatically in the swing but it seems quite bulky for a newborn...? And it's not the smallest of things in the flesh!?

The Bouncer is the cheapest and also vibrates and bounces and plays music which is nice too
The Rocker has no music or vibrate function
The Swing does everything but is bulky and will take up more room...

    ?!

ETA - Thats a good point Cedar, we do want to get something upfront but it might be best to get the bouncer intially as it's the cheapest and still quite good functionality, and then we can invest in a swing down the line if we think it'll be a good investment maybe?

To be honest i wouldn't worry too much about getting any of them before baby is here - a friend gave us a really basic bouncy chair (about £25 new i think ) and its been fine. In the early days A just lay in his moses basket or on us - wouldn't sit in the bouncy chair until he was a few weeks.

  • Re: Swing, Rocker or Bouncer Chair?

I agree with Goldfish. L has a bouncy chair we've borrowed from my sister. He didn't really like it until he was about 8or9 weeks old. Before then he was in his moses basket or carrycot.

Having said that, he did really like the swing he used at Ninabeanie's house despite it being pink and girly. He was so chilled in it it was really sweet.

  • Re: Swing, Rocker or Bouncer Chair?

We had a Chicco rocking chair thingy which Zoe loved.  She spent a lot of time in that chair, and actually when we were staying with friends the other week (or now have it) she was sitting in it watching TV - at 13 months old.

Apologies for lack of capital letters - Zoe has stolen my shift key Huh?

  • Re: Swing, Rocker or Bouncer Chair?

Not sure how many weeks you are but people will ask you what they can buy for baby towards the end of your pregnancy or when baby is here - and you'll probably get vouchers as presents so you don't go crazy and buy everything you think you'll need yet!

  • Re: Swing, Rocker or Bouncer Chair?

Hmmm now I'm confused! I'm not sure if we should wait and see what baby like first.

The thing is it's easier to buy everything now while I'm earning as after baby comes we'll be on one income pretty much as I get hardly anything MA wise.

Thanks for all the advice, my gut feeling is to wait and just put the money aside but the other part of me is wanting to just pick an option and go with it!

Will speak to H and see if he agrees with holding fire until baby comes x

ETA - Another good point Goldfish, a good reason to hold fire. Thank you! x

Hepburn, I was like you and wanted everything here and now but seriously you will not believe the amount of stuff you get given. The generosity shown is beyond anything I could have imagined. Put your pennies aside for when baby is here. Plus, once baby is here and your H is back at work you'll need to keep yourself busy so you can shop then.Big Smile

You speak wise words KB3! Any excuse to shop once baby comes Smile

I think we'll hold fire and wait until baby is here x

We had a Fisher Price Kick and Play bouncer and it was brilliant.  Vibrating function really helped and had a 'amusement' bar you could put on/take off.  W loved it.

I wouldn't bother with the Starlight swing.  A couple of my NCT group had them and neither children were keen.  Basic bouncer style ones were the biggest hits here.

  • Re: Swing, Rocker or Bouncer Chair?

depends on your baby! my friend LO loves her boucy chair, sarah much prefers the swinging chair and hates the bouncy chair we have although likes the boucy chair they have at the under 5's group in our village!! I'd wait until mini hepburn is here and then try them out if you can!
