  • Stretch marks

I know I'm thinking a bit far ahead here, but was just wondering about stretch marks. Is there anything you can do during pregnancy to minimise them or are they just part of being pregnant?

  • Re: Stretch marks

Hey I replied to your same post of OT

  • Re: Stretch marks

Oh I deleted it as I realized I had posted it in the wrong forum. Didn't see your reply JengleBells ...... sorry what did you say?

  • Re: Stretch marks

Thanks Jengle for your reply - just been back into OT and it seems the post didn't delete after all.

  • Re: Stretch marks

Sorry maybe not what you wanted to hear i tryed everything to try and stop them and they didnt appear till i was 37 weeks. My midwife told me if you are going to get them you cant stop them. My friend has has four kids and doesnt have one so hopefully you will be lucky.

  • Re: Stretch marks

Thanks TB - yeah I was thinking that might be the case. I guess in the end it is all so worth it though.

  • Re: Stretch marks

My CBM has just had a baby girl 1 week old today and she used bio oil since she found out she was pregnant, so that's what I'm going to do. If I get them at least they should be quite faint xx

  • Re: Stretch marks

Yep so worth it whats a few marks on your belly for a baby.

  • Re: Stretch marks

I got quite a few the first time round, but this time I haven't got any at all (well no new ones IYKWIM!) and the old ones haven't shown up that much either.

  • Re: Stretch marks

Mine all seemed to appear almost overnight a few weeks ago (so prob around 30ish weeks) despite using bio-oil - i've heard many people say there isn't really much you can do - some people get them others don't, just one of those things - can't say my stomach ever goes on public display so i'm not bothered, there are worst parts to pregnancy!!

  • Re: Stretch marks

I've been using Bio-oil since I found out I was pregnant, and so far <touches wood> I don't have any, and i'm 35 weeks. My Mum didn't get any with either me or my brother, and they do tend to be heriditary <clutches straws> But, just try to keep your skin well moisturised, and that will help them to fade quicker.

  • Re: Stretch marks

My Mum is covered in stretch marks so I was pretty resigned to the fact that I would get them.  She put together for me an aromatherapy blend (focussing on the combination of base oils) which I used throughout my first pregnancy and I didn't get a single stretch mark.

Then after A was born I stopped using it, but also put on 2 stone, and now my hips and thighs are covered in them - so I obviously am prone to them!

This time i've been using it again and at 30wks I still don't have any (touch wood!!)

Thanks everyone - sounds like the bio oil is worth a try but may just be one of those things we have no control over.

  • Re: Stretch marks

Hi again just thought i would say that i used bio oil since the day i found out i was pregnant infact i covered myself in the stuff as i said before i still got them! It doesnt work but might as well be worth a try i spend a fortune on the stuff and it did nothing.

  • Re: Stretch marks

I got stretch marks as a teen, and my mum has lots from her pregnancies too, so i'm resigned to the fact that i'm going to get more during this pregnancy as they obviously run in the family!

I am however using bodyshop coconut butter twice a day, in the vague hope that they won't be too bad!
