Are second and subsequent labours and deliveries always faster?

    What are your experiences?

Labour 2- Early labour- 6 hours, Established labour- 3 hours, 2nd stage- 11m

i was induced with both of mine - so maybe a little different - but

    1st - 40+7 - early labour - 30 hrs -drip inserted - 12 hrs - second stage - 2 hrs

    2nd - 38+5 - early labour - 5 hrs - drip inserted - 2 hrs from drip (2 cms) to delivery.

    much quicker, much much easier

1st Labour – waters broke, contraction started then stopped, eventually had to go into hospital to have the induction drip, labour failed to progress, had an epidural, took me in to theatre for one attempt with forceps and then a c section (but the forceps worked so no section needed. Baby arrived 56 hours after waters broke. 12 days late.

2nd labour – a few days of on and off contractions but actual labour 5 hours, used gas and air, my waters were broken for me and baby arrived 20 mins after that with 4 pushes! 8 days late

Baby boy July 2007 11 days late  Baby girl February 2009 8 days late  Identical Baby girl Baby girl March 2012 born at 36+2

    4 Angel July 2006 10 weeks, Sept 2006 5 weeks, April 2011 8 weeks, June 2011 6 weeks

    Not for me Sad

    1st - 48hrs from 1st contraction

    2nd - 60hrs from 1st contraction

    D - 29/11/06     M- 07/08/09

  • Re: 2nd labours always faster?

I was induced with my first - 39 hours in total.  The last 5 hours (ish) were counted as active labour, with about 1.5 hours pushing (had an epidural and contractions really slowed down).

Second baby was a home birth, about 4.5 hours in total.  Active labour only about an hour, with around 8 or 9 mins pushing - and he was 10lb 1.5oz so I was surprised it was so quick and relatively easy!

    Amber Marie was born 30th July 2007 (ONLY 17 days late!) - 8lb 13oz

Jack William arrived at home on 26th Feb 2009 (13 days late) - 10lb 1.5oz

    Bella Rose was born 15th July 2011 (7 days late) - 10lb 5oz
