  • completely ot, feeding christmas cakes

I made 2x 5 inch square cakes a couple of weeks ago.  I'm planning on feeding them weekly / fortnightly whenever i remember, but I've never made small ones, how much brandy should I be feeding htem with ach time, I put on two tea spoons each, and it slurped it up instantly, should i be giving htem more?

I don't think there's any exact science to it...I think two teaspoons sounds fine.  Delia says, "make small holes in the top and base of the cake with a cocktail stick or small skewer, then spoon over a few teaspoons of brandy, wrap it in double silicone paper secured with an elastic band and either wrap again in foil or store in an airtight container. You can now feed it at odd intervals until you need to ice or eat it.

My sister & I made my Mum a birthday cake once, it was 20cm diameter & a bit dry cos we overcooked it. So we poured a whole bottle of brandy into it over 3 days. It was bloody gorgeous! Laugh

wahhh! Magnolia I'm in your camp, if it drinks it up it needs more yes?

must meet up at Wisley again, I bet there are a million leaves to thrown and kick about it, S and L would love it.

  • Re: completely ot, feeding christmas cakes

Indeed. I apply the same philosophy to my tummy & wine.

Yes definitely. I love Wisley in the Autumn! I'm fine until I've been indoors for more than 2.5 hours then I start to wibble. Been housebound for a week with various sick kids/me and so am on the outside edge of loopy right now! Sorry I haven't replied to your message, my flaming phone is up the creek. I'm doing ok. Had full on meltdown on the kitchen floor this morning but otherwise fine. Sebastian looked most bemused and made me a lovely lego aeroplane to cheer me up. Not my best mummy moment! Embarrassed On plus side, I have lost half a stone since all this nonsense came to  a head so silver lining & all that Huh?

Have you recovered from horrific journey back from Greece? What a total nightmare that was. Hug

Me, I presume, since you, Rach, are something of a Nigella.  Hmmmph.  Yes, it's VERY roode. Lol.  We've made a Christmas cake every year for the last....[counts on fingers] seven years and as it happens, have made ours today, so I'm a bit clued up on Delia.

(See, I can't do ANYTHING with tuna and pasta without consulting Hitched first, but I can make a mean Christmas cake...lol)

Magnolia, lovely I'd rather you put weight on than have to deal with whats on your plate right now, and [cuddle] to S for making you an aeroplane.  if you're having a 'moment' and need us to take S and F to the park or to keep them busy while you just have a cup of tea and escape for a while give us a ring or mail me, we can be with you in 30 mins xx
