  • Anyones marriage been saved by Relate?

I don't want to go into all the details but H and I (despite admitting we do love each other) have been going through a bad patch recently and it seems its gone on for quite a while that I personally believe it would benefit us from seeing relate.  H is open to the idea which is good as neither of us want to split.

I guess I'm just looking for positive stories from people who have used relate and that it helped them a lot.

Ex-dippy and his gf went to relate after going through a rough patch. He said that it helped them to be able to talk to each other and have someone to mediate. They're still together so it worked for them Kiss

Yes, we have just finished 12 or 13 weeks or so of relate and it has without doubt saved our marriage.

I can say that we are in a better place now than we were even in our happiest times previously. My H has changed beyond all recognition due to dealing with a number of issues during the sessions.

It is an amazing thing! We had a serious issue which prompted us going, but I wouldn't hesitate to use them again in the future for "refreshes" if needed.

Let me know if you need more information.

    Hugs to you

Did you talk about things in the sessions that you didn't think were a problem but actually they were (if that makes sense)...?

I am really eager to do this and feel really positive

Yes, it's an amazing process as you start off wondering how you're going to get anything out of it, but the counsellor leads you down various paths and you and our H will have a number of eureka moments where you realise that actually this or that was wrong and this is how to put it right or that even though you or he thought one or the other was in the wrong over something actually it may have been your own perceptions etc

Ours went back to childhood to see how out upbringing affected our outlook on relationships now.

We had one major incident which prompted me to insist we went to relate, and I was surprised that very little of the sessions referred to that incident, it was all to do with how our behaviour and reactions to each other over the period of our relationship had lead to that incident occuring.

I so recommend going. I was actually quite sad to stop them!
