Any one in birmingham?

OH and I are off to Birmingham tomorrow, hes going to a convention at aston uni and I though I would tag along and do some mooching about so can anyone tell me how far the shops centre is away from the uni and how do i get there? is it walkable i have baby and pram with me as well. also any recs for lunch (cheeper the better) and shopping areas.

Are you at the main uni site? If so it is walkable about 15 mins. You would need to go under the underpass and walk up corporation street. Or as my directions are rubbish check out on google.

Once you get into city centre there are shops along new street and then there is the Bull Ring which has laods of shops inside in. As for food places there is Pizza Express in the bull ring or else there is the likes of Eat, Starbucks etc in the BullRing. Bella Italia along New Strret.

Yes we are at main site, have just googled and it looks easy to get to the bullring. I think i may visit the museum as well if the baby is asleep, havent done that since my uni days.Thankyou for the info, im beeing swayed towards pizza express lol.

Might be worth hopping on a bus and going to the taste of Birmingham festival at Cannon Hill park - a child friendly event too.

Lunchwise, Martineau Place (opposite Rackhams) has the usual lunchtime places to eat e.g. Eat, PIzza Hut etc. plus it's much less busy than the places near the Bullring.  If I were you, if it's nice weather I'd grab a sandwich and go up to St Phillips Square (other side of Rackhams/House of Fraser) and eat outside by the church.

Shopping wise I'd definitely recommend some of the smaller independent shops in the Great Western Arcade and the Picadilly Arcade.  If you like silver jewellery, Smithsonia in the Picadilly Arcade (just off New St towards the top end) has saved me from many a birthday dilemma.

thanks barron for your food(and other) ideas, as its a nice day here, im hoping its going to be everywhere so hopefull will just be able to grab a butty and go sit by the church. You shouldent of told me about the Smithonia though, i may come home sparkling but pennyless
