  • No teeth at 12mths..cause for concern?

My cousin's gorgeous 12mth non-identical twins are 12mths old tomorrow, and she's a bit concerned that one of them has no teeth as yet, not as much as bumpy gums. She's had a bit of a rocky relationship with our HV and Drs for reasons I won't go into here, but needless to say she's reluctant to go and see them unless there is much they can practically do with her - like my cousin says, what on earth can you do to encourage teeth to grow?

I've had a quick google, the consensus of which was that 1st teeth appear anywhere from 6mths in in general, but also earlier and later - but by 12mths if none have appeared it could be time to go see the Dr.

Does anyone else have any experience?

    I wouldn't be overly concerned.

My cousin'slittle girl got her first tooth at 14 months.

My dentist said that the longer the teeth stay in the gums, the healthier/stronger they're likely to be.

Evie didn't get her first tooth until 13 months.  I'm sure I'd read somewhere that the latest recorded was 17months but my friend's little boy is 18months now and still doesn't have any!

Lovely! Thank you all. I've tried to explain that the babies haven't read all the books about what age things are supposed to happen, but she's got a v annoying 'friend' with twins who is constantly telling her what they should/shouldn't be doing by the minute.

I'd like to kick this 'friend'!

    Thanks

Another one here at 13 months, he's now 2.5 and he has just 4 to come through.

My little girl's first tooth came through when she was almost 16 months old. The rest came through thick and fast, and she's had a full set for ages now (she's almost 3 now).

B was 1yr and 2 days when he got his first, the rest took their time coming too. E is 11m and still has no reliable signs of getting any just yet.
