  • Can I re-heat breastmilk?

A isnt very keen on room temperature BM and Im due to leave her for half a day so probably two feeds worth.  If my mum warms previously frozen BM can she reheat it for the next feed?  Kellymom says yes but doctors say no!

    Anybody any experiences?

    Thanks x

I'd say yes, as long as it's not sitting around for ages in between. But might be worth getting your mum to only heat up small batches.

I'm suprised Kellymom says its ok, would love to see the link.

I thought frozen breastmilk had to be used after its defrosted and certainly not heated twice?

This follows on to my next question.  A will be 9 weeks old - How much milk does a fairly big 9 week old take?  I know its a bit of a - how long is a piece of string question but a rough idea if anyone knows?

thanks *** cat - It seems to be a bible on here which is why i looked there.  Also kellymom says it can be put back in a fridge then reheated.  Does anyone do this?

Hmmm. BBD has a point - I'd somehow missed the frozen bit. Frozen BM is a little different as the good enzymes that kill bacteria are possibly 'killed' by freezing.

I'm still not convinced there's a massive risk as long as it's cooled down again quickly after the first feed but it's probably best not to.
