I wouldn't want other people washing my clothes.

The size labels wouldn't bother me though, anyone I know knows what size I am anyway as they can see me Laugh

When we were flooded, we would take our clothes to MIL to wash - I wasn't all that comfortable with it, from a point of view of someone else doing a task I am perfectly able to do myself.  However, she was really happy to help, and it was incredibly useful.  However, I wouldn't like someone to go into my room and pick up and wash my dirty things.  I am really picky about what goes in with what, so I would take MIL the washing ready separated into loads.

I agree with the privacy point, my MIL went to go into my bedroom this morning to make my bed when I told her to leave it alone! I know its well intended but I don't like that unless I ask. Plus I had her mothers day present in there.

She is currently downstairs doing my ironing though lol! But then I have fractured my elbow and haven't been able to do any in a week.  She can iron my clothes from now on in if she wants, I hate doing it.

My FIL when staying did our ironing and then went into our room and put it all away. Mr G could not understand why I was all bent out of shape about that one.

When me and H first started living together, MIL just went into our room, got out our washing and washed it. I was fuming and asked H to have a word with her, which he did.

Next time she came she just washed his and left mine Laugh. He had to explain to her that it was the fact that she was going through the basket that was the problem, bless her, she never thought she was doing anything wrong.

When I stay with my mum she tells me 15 mins before she puts a wash on so we can both put in ourselves anything we want done direct into the washer.

However once clean she did sew up a no of holes in my hubby's underpants. ROTFL

If I were to give my MIL clothes to wash that would be fine, which we usually do when we stay here.  I wouldn't expect her to come into the room I'm staying in and collect it though!

I used to stay at H's (when we were first seeing each other and he still lived at home) at the weekends and his mum used to grab both sons' laundry bins and put all the washing on.

The next time I went round she waved a (clean) black thong at me and FIl asked if I wanted my eye patch back Embarrassed Absolutely mortified didn't cover it, and they have taken the pee ever since! I always made exta sure my washing didn't end up left in his bin after that.

I am sure my MIL knows what a pair of dirty knickers looks like. As does my sister and my best friend.  But would I want any of these confronting my keks sunny side up in the washing basket?  No I would not.

Well intentioned as it may be.

I won't like someone else washing my clothes. In fact only I do the washing in this house. I wont allow my H to do it, not that he's protesting it.

I wouldn't like it either; not only the invasion of privacy thing but like Lois I like my washing to be sorted - into colours and fabrics - so I wouldn't like a day's clothes just lumped in together. I also do knickers etc on a hotter wash than some things...

I know people I've lent things to who have turned the white stuff grey because they don't sort things. Needless to say, I won't be lending them stuff again. I can't stand it when people put the whole day's wash on, no matter what colour it is - you can always tell as their whites are mucky coloured.

Sorting the wash means you do have piles of washing but it's more eco friendly to do a full wash anyway, right?

  • Re: AIBU- Other people washing your clothes

The only people I wouldn't object to doing my laundry are my Mum and Dad. Mostly because like Mrs B & Lois, I like mine sorted into colours etc. Dad is ace at doing laundry and is almost anal in his ability to tackle stains. And Mum taught me how to do laundry so I can trust her. It has taken me nearly 8 years to train Mr P how to do laundry to my standards, the sticking point was you couldn't save loads up to tumble dry as colours still run then!

That said we don't stay at the inlaws and the thought of them doing anything for us without either us asking or hearing about it for the next 6 months is totally impassible, it just wouldn't happen!
