Couples 'have many options' when designing a wedding cake

One expert has described the different options available to couples when they decide to order their wedding cake.

Speaking to the Kansas State Collegian, Mindy Wilson, owner and cake designer at Blue Sky Cake Designs in Manhattan, explained that while some couples opt for traditional desserts, local bakers are increasingly catering for unique and symbolic designs.

She said that monogram cake toppers are always a popular option because they can be saved as a keepsake after the occasion.

Ms Wilson offers sheet and cupcakes instead of a single large dessert to help people save money and also decorates her creations with anything from fresh flowers to frosting, which could match the decorations at the wedding venue.

"Couples can really put a signature on their own cake [by going through a local cake decorator]," she added.

One unusual option for a wedding cake could come courtesy of Tanys Pullin from Somerset, as she creates tiered chocolate desserts filled with different types of cheese.
