Newlyweds 'underestimate cost of honeymoons'

While many brides may be concerned about how much their
wedding flowers and the perfect dress are going to set them back, many are unaware of the true cost of a honeymoon, it has been revealed.
A survey conducted by P J Hayman found that 30 per cent of respondents expect to spend between £501 and £1,000 on their romantic getaway after they have made their wedding speeches.
However, the actual price of a
honeymoon has been estimated at about £3,200.
There was also a regional divide in opinions, with people living in Wales more likely to underestimate the cost.
Director of the travel insurance provider Peter Hayman said that in the current economic climate, "people are tightening their belts and are no longer willing to spend as much money as they may once have been prepared to do".
One honeymoon destination that newlyweds may consider is Japan, as Koichiro Yoshida, executive director at the London office of the Japan National Tourism Organisation, recently said that the country offers a "dynamic blend of old and new".
