Eamonn Holmes to wed presenter girlfriend

Northern Irish TV presenter Eamonn Holmes has announced his engagement to long-term partner Ruth Langsford.

The 49-year-old former GMTV host proposed wedding planning last week after 12 years together, during a romantic trip away to celebrate Ruth's birthday.

Ruth showed off her engagement ring on ITV show This Morning, which the couple host every Friday, before they decided to announce the happy news live on air.

Talking about the proposal, the excited bride-to-be gushed: "I'm so thrilled. We've discussed marriage many times but this was an incredibly romantic and heartfelt proposal which I will never forget.

"It came as a complete bolt from the blue and I said yes immediately. It was very emotional - we were both in tears. I collected my ring yesterday and I'm just so excited."

The couple, who have one son together, seven-year-old Jack, are set to send out wedding invitations later next year.
