Swedish royal family announces wedding plans

Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria has confirmed her engagement to long-term boyfriend Daniel Westling, it has been revealed.

After much media speculation and wedding planning rumours, the 31-year-old Swedish royal announced the news that she and the 35-year-old personal trainer and gym owner will wed next year.

"Daniel and I have become engaged, the King and the government have given their consent to our marriage and the wedding is being planned for spring or early summer 2010," the princess stated, according to Reuters.

As the eldest child and heir of King Carl XVI Gustaf, Victoria is expected to have a lavish royal wedding, attended by European dignitaries and royal families as well as fellow members of the Royal House of Bernadotte.

The couple made their relationship official back in 2002 and have since endeavored to keep their romance private. News of a formal union has raised some eyebrows due to the groom's 'common' background.
