'Experiential gifts' increasingly popular
More and more couples are adding less traditional gifts to their
wedding lists, as the concept of giving turns towards experience rather than specific products, according to industry experts.
Andrew Johnson, director general of the Voucher Association, said that as the process of buying gifts changes and people are more likely to buy "experiential"
wedding gifts such as hotel and spa day vouchers.
"The process of gifts that we buy these days is quite different to 20 or even ten years ago. We can see this through experiential type gifts so things like beauty days and Virgin experience days etcetera.
"We're seeing an increasing trend for gifts which allow you to do something as opposed to receiving specific products as gifts."
For example, travel vouchers are becoming increasingly popular in the UK, as they can also incorporate more than reduced rate flights. Marriott Individual Incentives offer theatre breaks, pamper days as well as golfing and dining experiences, which could be used for
honeymoons.
