UK's oldest bride and groom wed
What are believed to be the UK's oldest couple to get married have just tied the knot in Devon.
It has taken just three months of
wedding planning, with 90-year-old Penny Cooper making a leap-year proposal to 89-year-old John Dawkins back in September.
The pair met nine years ago at a charity event and have now become husband and wife following a ceremony at a registry office
wedding venue.
Mr Dawkins told the BBC: "It was absolutely excellent. I would have been a very grumpy old man if I had not met Penny. Now I have a greater objective to live to 100."
The pair used to live together at Mr Dawkins house but following a stroke, Mrs Dawkins has now moved into a care home where her husband visits on a regular basis.
The Dawkins have beaten off Peggy Clark and James Mason, who were named Britain's oldest newlyweds when they married last year with a combined age of 177.
