Piece of 27-year-old royal wedding cake worth £1k
A slice of wedding cake made in celebration of the Prince and Princess of Wales' wedding day sold for £1,000 at auction yesterday, according to reports.
The piece of cake, dating back to 1981, was kept safe by a former member of staff at Clarence House, protected by a metal tin and sold at auction to an unknown bidder for $2,138.
Commenting on the find, auctioneer Chris Albury, told the Daily Mail: "Diana memorabilia holds its value very well because there are some avid collectors out there.
"The decorative sugar icing of the royal coat of arms on top of the cake is very skilled and while there is some cracking and damage it is in remarkably good condition," he added.
Prince Charles married Diana on July 29th 1981 in London's St Paul's Cathedral.
Reports suggest that royal memorabilia has already been prepared in anticipation of Prince Williams future nuptials to girlfriend Kate Middleton.
