Honeymoons hit hardest by recession say hitched.co.uk
Whatever role you play in a wedding, we all know that the process of marriage doesn't come cheap. With the pressure of the recession at the moment popular wedding website hitched.co.uk wanted to know if the 'credit crunch' really has had an impact on UK wedding planning couples so asked its visitors if the looming recession is playing a part in their wedding budget.
Probably the biggest area in which brides-to-be look forward to is buying the all important dress. When surveyed, figures show that this is still one of the most exciting wedding planning experiences, and only 2.5% of brides are cutting back on their dream design. The wedding day goes by quickly, so it's important to savor the memory by way of a photographer. It seems as if hitched.co.uk visitors felt the same and 6.2% of couples are planning to budget this area. 10.3% are not having as many flowers, and even though they are a symbol for eternity, the same percentage of couples are going to lower their wedding ring allocation. 15.4% of couples have decided to tighten the belt when it came to the venue, but having said all of that, one of the biggest spends, and something that needs to be planned in advance is the honeymoon. Results show that a massive 48.7% of hitched.co.uk wedding planning couples are re-thinking their honeymoon plans for the future.
Below are the hitched.co.uk tips on how to save money on your wedding with the looming credit crunch:
- Check out your local charity shop or see if your family own a beautiful vintage dress that you can modernize to suit your style.
- Ask the church if any other couples are getting married over the same weekend. There might be an opportunity to flower share or split some of the cost.
- Inviting a lot of guests means booking a larger venue. Be ruthless and cut back on the number of people you invite.
- Ask your guests to take photographs. You can then create a fun wedding album from all of their snap shots.
- And for the honeymoon, either stay close to home, or save to have an amazing honeymoon to celebrate your 1st wedding anniversary.
