10 Simple Wedding Planning Tricks
Fran @ Hitched
Over the past 9 years I’ve seen the wedding industry grow,
change, develop and become an experience filled with the ultimate choice and variety
to suit your style as a couple regardless of your ideas, budget or personal
I started my journey at hitched in 2006 working as part of
the wedding venues team; one of the most important decisions that couples will
make early on in their planning. From there I went on to support bridalwear –
another huge decision that a bride needs to make, and really the next step that
we recommend in the wedding planning process. But, on top of other various
roles that I’ve had here at hitched the favourite part of my job has been
writing my daily Plan with Fran blog.
Being able to write about wonderful wedding venues, dreamy
dresses, stylish stationery, hot honeymoons, creative suppliers, inspiration
galore and so much more has been an absolute pleasure – but as I leave hitched.co.uk
(for a little while) to welcome a new person into the world, I wanted to leave
you with my top 10 simple wedding planning tricks that I’ve learned over the
past 9 years.
Take your Time
One of the first things you’ll be asked after announcing your engagement will
be ‘have you set a date?’ Obviously you can’t specify a date until you’ve
booked a wedding venue, but my advice here is ‘don’t rush’ this phase. You’ll
probably spend most of your wedding budget on the venue, so ensuring you choose
something perfect is essential!
Take Advantage of Free Things
Take advantage of free planning tools, discounts, offers and more! The
hitched.co.uk members section contains free planning tools to help make your
wedding planning soooo much easier! Register for free and then use the budget
planner, diary, scrapbook, guest manager, table planner and more, as often as
you like throughout your wedding planning journey. And be sure to register for
the hitched.co.uk special offers email.
Use tools like the hitched.co.uk discussion forum to read tips and advice from
real life brides. Or, if you’ve got a question of your own, why not ask it
anonymously; you’ll be sure to get a plethora of replies which could help you greatly
when it comes to making that important decision.
Go with your Gut
When it comes to finding the perfect wedding venue or choosing the ultimate
wedding dress, go with your gut! You’ll definitely know when you’ve found ‘the
one’ so keep going until you have that ‘yes’ feeling!!
Communicate with your Partner
You’re in this together, so be sure to communicate your thoughts, ideas and feelings
with your partner as often as you can. The more you communicate the more of an
understanding you’ll get from each other of how you want your day and
experience to be.
One of the most talked about subjects on the hitched.co.uk forum is ‘bridesmaids’.
From ranting about dresses to planning the hen do, bridesmaids can be one of
the most difficult parts of your wedding to manage. My advice is to choose
bridesmaids that you can trust not to cause you any further work, stress or
frustration throughout this exciting process. Think about this seriously and
ask your best girls when you are ready!
Keep your Stress Levels Down
There’s no point in getting all het up about minor issues and you certainly won’t
want to be a stress head in the few days leading up to your wedding. Stay calm
and in control of your day throughout. Take a few days away from wedding
planning every once in a while if it gets too much, and just keep thinking that
in the end, all of your hard work would have been worth it.
Don’t Worry About the Little Things
One of the most common answers that we get on a completed real wedding
questionnaire when asked if there was anything about your wedding you would
change is ‘I wouldn’t have let the little things worry me.’ And all of these
brides are right! No one will notice if there is a minor glitch on the big day
or if something doesn’t go quite to plan.
Remember Whose Day It Is
Hopefully you’ll only ever have one wedding day, so make this day the most
incredible day ever! Do it exactly how you want to and try not to be influenced
by others when it comes to opinions and unwanted advice. Stay level headed.
Keep it Fun
It’s a wedding!! Planning this special day should be exciting for your guests,
but most importantly an amazing experience for you too! Have fun with your
planning and make sure that you continuously look forward to your best day
