Upstaging the bride on her wedding day
After months of wedding planning and countless sleepless nights, actress Sophie Winkleman and Lord Freddie Windsor have tied the knot.
It was a lavish ceremony and the bride and groom looked fabulous, but there was one element of the day that could very well have put some noses out of joint.
According to the Daily Mail, Lord Freddie's mum Princess Michael of Kent tried to upstage the beautiful bride with a daringly glamorous ensemble.
While Sophie looked stunning in her silk ivory wedding dress with a full skirt, strapless bodice, lace sleeves and a floor-sweeping veil, her mother-in-law donned an over-the-top low-cut blue satin gown with a wrap and lots of bling.
Perhaps Princess Michael just wanted to look her best for the momentous occasion, but if it is the case that she made a conscious decision to out-do her new daughter-in-law, then I personally would be feeling a bit miffed right now if I was Sophie.
There is an unwritten rule that states that wedding guests and members of the bridal party should not try to upstage the bride. For example, bridesmaid dresses should never come close to the splendour of the wedding gown! Some people even say that guests should not wear white or ivory dresses because they could be mistaken for the bride - that's how important it is that she shines on her own special day.
So, how would you feel if you were upstaged on your wedding day?
