Relationship status update - "engaged"
When a couple start going out there are a number of exciting yet awkward hurdles that must be overcome. Progressing from just dating to becoming an exclusive item is always a hot topic of discussion and even going as far as referring to each other as a boyfriend or girlfriend is a particular area that some couples struggle with.
In today's technology-obsessed world, most people are plugged into some kind of social network, which is a medium where relationship status is everything. Changing from "single" to "in a relationship" is an exciting time for people on sites like Facebook and it often sparks a lot of comment from friends.
So, you can imagine how exciting it must have been for Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester and her actor boyfriend Sebastian Stan when they updated their respective Facebook statuses from "in a relationship" to "engaged". Much like Twitter, they were able to use Facebook to make a widespread announcement to their friends - and consequently the rest of the world.
There were no tabloid rumours or paparazzi pictures - just the news coming from the horse's mouth. I'm sure Leighton and Sebastian made a point to tell their closest family and friends the news of their wedding planning before launching it in cyberspace, but I think this is a great way to share good tidings on a large scale.
Would you tweet your engagement or upgrade your status to share your wedding news?
