    when do babies develop moles

Megan certainly seems to have developed a couple of moles in the past month or two (she's 20 months) - just teeny weeny dark brown dots on her skin, but they don't come off with washing. It's quite likely she'll end up with a fair few as both H and I are quite moley, but I wasn't sure when they'd develop, it seems quite young. And there's a bit of a worry that it could be related to the other skin patches she's got, which could be something nastier.

So do your babies/toddlers have moles? Do you remember when they first developed?

Aidan has one that he has had for a long time. I think it arrived sometime between 12 and 18 months.

Phoebe has had a couple since 5 months. Not a huge surprise as I am a moley person too.

A was born with a couple - one on each leg. There never has been any mention of them being anything to worry about.... (mother keeps fingers crossed....)

I don't know, but I've been wondering this as I have quite a few moles and I am wondering if Andrew has inherited them. Looking at pictures of me as a baby, I don't seem to have had any until I was at least 2 I think.

I'm hugely moley. I have a couple of hundred, easily. T developed a bigish one (especially considering his size, it's about the size of the end of a pencil) on his thigh a couple of months ago (6m ish) and he's also got a couple of tiny dots. Like you said, I only knew they were moles when they didn't wash off. He's also got two cafe au lait spots, so we're keeping a close eye on them.

Alice (32 months) has one on her back, but can't remember when it first came.  Hers is quite flat and not dark coloured, but def a mole.  I have quite a few all over so no surprise she'll have a few.  Funnily enough, though, no freckles yet despite spending as much time as she can out in the garden.

When do freckles appear?  Know they are sun damage, so not keen to see them on her, but just curious what age kiddies tend to get them.

Lucas has a small one around his hair line and one of his leg. They appeared when he was about 10 months.

He was born with no marks at all.

I'd love to know why they appear.

Great - thank you all. I was a bit worried that moles didn't develop til a bit later - but it seems that it is quite normal for them to show up at this stage - and I would be amazed if she didn't have lots of them when she gets older.

I don't think moles/birthmarks in babies are necessarily anything to worry about at all - sorry for worrying you HugeGrin. Like Flossie Teacake - it is because Megan has cafe-au-lait patches too (and lots more than just 2 of them) - those can be a marker for a genetic problem, and I was worried that the moles might be part and parcel of that too.

Heavens, no need to apologise - but thank you anyway: it takes a mother to understand how quickly a mummy's imagination flares up!

oh crumbs. hit post too soon and can't (/wont!) work out how to edit.

Birthmarks are generally nothing to worry about, especially if they're flat. I know, as I appear to be related to Gorbachev!

My 4 year old son was born with one on his elbow, which has has slightly increased in size.  A few small specks have also appeared on his arm which I believe will be moles - he calls them his nanny kisses from heaven!

I am very moley. Lou has a few, and I also thought they were dirt to start with Embarrassed, she's had them since before she was 2. Non doesn't have any. They are identical twins - I wonder what "causes" moles? Idea

I'm very moley, but H isn't. I think Harriet has my fair skin, so she'll probably get them as she gets older. She hasn't any at the moment, but does have a small birthmark on her forehead.

I always thought moles were related to sun damage, because I always notice that I have a few more after a day in the sun. I could be wrong though. In fact, I suppose if that's the case then how do I get more every year on my legs when I hardly ever wear a skirt? It's probably more likely that I only notice I have more on the rare occasions I wear a skirt.EmbarrassedLaugh
